This one comes from the inner recesses of my mind..
Back in late 72/early 73, KB gave a good amount of airplay to Smoke Gets In Your Eyes by Blue Haze. Great song from the 50's, "modernized" for the 70's.
Anybody else remember?
Anybody?
Buehler??
I remember it very well....seems to be my favorite version of the song. I seem to remember WAXC playing it to death
at the time.....and POOF...it vanished! As much time as I spend these last few years listening to oldies-type stations, today is the first time I've heard it since then- from the link above on YouTube!
Defines "one hit wonder" so very nicely!
In all these posts I read here, it makes me recall that the stiffs mentioned here were played in varying amounts according to the station- and in Rochester, between WBBF, WAXC, and WHFM, you got pretty good exposure to most all of them ( I was so bummed when WAXC threw the towel in and went AC- if I only had AM available- which happened often in those days, they were my choice- could never develop a taste for WBBF, even though they were "the station" youngsters like I was in those days thought was hot- once I discovered WHFM, BBF was so done with me- and if I only had AM available- there was always KB, which came in decently all over Rochester after WAXC's demise.)
As for "Daddy Dewdrop" and "Chick-a-boom"- for me, it sucked then, and the ensuing years haven't improved it any!
For those who like it, fine, you're entitled to your choices- me, I wouldn't care if I ever heard it again!
