And The Stiffs Just Keep On Comin'

With the passing of John Hughes today my 80s contribution comes from "The Breakfast Club" soundtrack:
"Fire in the Twilight" - Wang Chung

With a peak chart position of #110 this easily fits in the stiff catalog.

One more 80s blast from the past, from one-hit wonder The Larson-Feiten Band, "Who'll Be the Fool Tonight"

The group Queen had a few big hits in the late '70s & early '80s but one that never took flight in 1981 was "Flash Gordon".
Yellow LP cover. Still have the soundtrack on vinyl. Just about everybody used that synth "flash" effect for a promo or some kind of impact FX. It was the beginning of what was to become the over use of whooshes and zaps on stagers and bumpers.

Here's another 80s track that was a marginal hit, Dead Giveway by Shalamar. Peaked in the 20s and got some club play. May have been too much guitars for the disco crowd and too much disco for the rock crowd. The guitar bridge and big bass recalls Sly & the Family Stone... without Sly's great horn section.

Sure, I'll jump in on the thread that never ends (and apparently has hatched another stiffs thread on the Cincinnati page)..."Dead Giveaway" was a reasonably successful hit at B94 Pittsburgh.

Here's one I remember Jack Armstrong playing on KB in 1969..."Through The Eye Of The Needle" by Ten Wheel Drive featuring Genya Ravan. Is that somewhere in the 97 pages? They also had another stiff, "Morning Much Better".

Monkeys On The Moon - The Sopwith Camel

"Through the Eye of The Needle" reminded me of the artist.

--and Sopwith Camel reminded me of this one from '68, backed with the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band:
"Hooray for the Salvation Army Band" - Bill Cosby

"Hello Hello" was also done by Claudine Longet... Somebody's wife {Andy Williams maybe??}
Justmebuk....."Beat Me to the Punch" ( a stiff? by the late Mary Wells?)....... Claudine Longet was married to Andy Williams until 1975; in addition to "Hello Hello", she had a hit with "Love is Blue"....... but her career as an entertainer was shot (pun intended) down in 1977.

drt
(wondering when the emoticons symbols will work again?) :)

A seventy seven degree Saturday night recalls a sultry stiff from 1977: "Dog Days" from the Atlanta Rhythm Section. Waiter! Another round of ice cold Pabst, por favor!
