And The Stiffs Just Keep On Comin'

After 104 pages and 1036 posts these stiffs certainly do bring back some memories, to this day every time I hear Firefall's "You Are The Woman" I still hear the cue burn on the first couple of seconds of the song!

I would be remiss for not contributing a Firefall stiff:

"Love That Got Away"

How about the too-tight Cart: I hear the burp of "Sir Duke" cuing up on a UMC Beaucart--the deck with the warning label "No carts over 5 1/2 minutes"

While I would not call the Firefall tunes stiffs they are definitely good tunes, the kinds of things we would say to one we love as a matter of encouragement, except for "Strange Way", which is a good tune that should serve as a good lesson to those who would whine, use and manipulate with tears and troubles they should keep to themselves.

I concur. At some point, the realization that this thread has moved into personal taste, repetition, and total unknowns...would create a post to say so. And I'm inclined to be the one. I would call on Radnowski to salvage his domain, but I 'm not sure he would disagree. I believe it has become anemic, and.....well I'll leave it to the rest of you that may or may not feel the same.....
That's all

Total unknowns might actually fall under the heading "stiff", because they were tunes. On that note, my stop is coming up any minute.

You rang, sir? This thread has taken on a life of its own, thanks to the many posters. There's an ebb and flow to it. Sometimes it appears posters just throw something up to keep the thread alive. Then there are themes that develope. There have been "oh wow" songs and "oh sh*t" songs, some gems and some honest-to-goodness stiffs. So many of the songs have really connected, it seems many posters share something in common, "Oh yeah, I remember that song... it never made it, but I loved it." I guess that's what I was thinking when I made the first post. It's not my thread, I'm just the jamoke who started it. You guys have kept it alive.

Here's something that happened about a month ago: I wanted to add a song so I started to sift through the first five pages, then thought "ah hell, bag it" and never bothered to add the song. Sometimes, the song's already been added by another poster. But here's the weird part: There have been one or two times when another poster adds the song I was thinking of adding a few days or a week later. Is that the Twilight Zone theme I hear in the background? That could very well be the reason people re-visit the thread. Beats me.

Here's tonight's suggestion. I think this was the follow-up to "Get Together" by the Youngbloods. Always liked this song for a variety of reasons, one of which is it reminds me of a middle-aged woman whose house we painted bright yellow, inside and out. Only the ceilings were white, the gutters and facia were deep grass green. She was a cancer survivor and cherished every day. I also think she smoked a lot of hippie lettuce too, but that's long ago and very far away and thankfully it was before Willie The Tagger joined the crew. It would have taken us twice as long to complete the job.

Here's a two-fer from the Youngbloods, the first being their hit, "Get Together," the second song being tonight's contribution: "Sunlight."

I'll add disclaimers to my "non-stiffs" from now on. ;-) The stiffs or non-stiffs, depending on your point of view is almost secondary to some of the great stories I've been reading about "Behind The Stiffs". (a new VH-1 series?) Radnowski, DB, Pastrick, Savage and everyone else who contribute something beyond the stiff itself bring me back to check the latest. Thanks, all!

I believe I heard the 60's gasp their last breath the other night when I heard "Get Together" used for a Luv's diapers commercial.

Here's a song I haven't seen listed here: it peaked at #21 back in 1975. It paid homage to The Greatest. I give you "Black Superman(Muhammed Ali).

What In The World - Jack Scott
How Do You Do It - Gerry & The Pacemakers
Jesse James - The Greaseband

How about "Just Remember I Love You" to fill out the Firefall trifecta?

Way too overplayed. You might hear it at least 4 times a week were I live....each and every week, year after year...ugh!

How 'bout we make it a three-fer with Jesse's solo release from 1974 "Light Shine" - only made it to #37 on the charts, an example of a great tune that wasn't a chart-topper.

I concur, an AC staple that's been played to death....hey, an idea for another thread:

"And the Burn-outs Just Keep On Comin' "

My contribution to that thread, Bette Midler's "Wind Beneath My Wings". By the way, before the Devine Miss M released it, Gary Morris released it on the Country Charts, and Lou Rawls had a single around that same time which was released as "Hero" (it began with a few lines of spoken verse)-- which, judging from it's rather mediocre position on the carts would classify it as a stiff.

Alright, alright, I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition when I used "Just Remember I Love You". I was just adding a 3rd Firefall song to the mix. I apologize for not prefacing my song with "I know it's not a stiff but... For those of you keeping score "Just Remember I Love You" reached the same chart position as the 2nd song mentioned, "Strange Way". I'll go back and stand in the corner until I'm told I can end my time out. On that note, how about Andy Gibb with "Time Is Time"?

I'd better join you in the corner as I have been guilty of posting non-stiffs without the appropriate disclaimer (is that disclaimer posted somewhere???) Guess it's like when we've been hotlined by the PD for playing a cut out of format. But, you've redeemed yourself with the Andy Gibb track and tied it into a "time out" theme... which brings back memories of seeing Andy at Caesars in Vegas in one of his last performances--his mom and dad were in the audience videotaping the show.

Come to think of it, I've been off the mark in the past calling stiffs--when I was a Music Director back in the 80s I thought Chris DeBurgh's "Lady in Red" was a stiff, A&M's Jon Konjoyan kept hammering me to add it and I kept turning him down...I was sure wrong as it hit #1 on the AC charts and is an AC format staple.

Speaking of going out of format and playing a favorite from my personal stash, the biggest infraction I committed was while working overnights babysitting an automated beautiful music station in the early '70s. I snuck in John Lennon's "Imagine" into the weather cart deck. Didn't get caught for that 3am airing but I was very nervous about it...

I submit Bruce Willis - "Respect Yourself"
