And The Stiffs Just Keep On Comin'

May I submit one from the way back machine outta '68 -

Little Arrows by Leapy Lee. Don't ever hear that song anyplace
except utube or something.

BTW - Thanks Mr. Savage for the Thee Prophet info.

If ya get a chance Bob S., can you give us your info again on
how a Station ID was labeled as 4 rpms?
Where you would wind the record back so many turns and if it's 4 turns that's what would be on the cart label for the ID. Why not just cue the record up to the audio and hit if after the ID?

Sorry - didn't work in that era of bcasting.

Thanks,

Bill

Ok, I'm biting on this one. How bout "Video Killed the Radio Star?". (cudos to "Jack" for checking the dumpster this afternoon during my basement office "Listen at Work" session) Now is that classified as "stiff", "classic", "hip", or just out of sight-out of mind?

I think "Video Killed The Radio Star" is known more as a trivia answer than anything else. Many people know it was the first video played on MTV. If you're really young and reading this you might not know that MTV used to actually play videos. ;D

Surely; ("don't call me Shirley" - Airplane); that was a generic reference of "if you're really young" (not specific to me, I hope). I was around for the inception of MTV - (actually in the biz) : which makes me wonder why it's still called MTV? Trivia answer? Maybe - but none the less the "hit" was resounding across the airwaves on "Jack" this afternoon. Which changes this board's subject to: "And the Trivia keeps on Coming" Hey! That kind of works considering the content of this board. There has been a wagon load of trivia expended here! No wonder the thread views are higher than the Dow :) Bringing on the memories of us "young readers" - can't change the past. Regards

Godley & Creme!? Amazing. Had forgotten about "Cry" which I thought was a good song for four-fifths of the song until that gawdawful ending with the shrill "cry" refrain. No kidding, the ending on that song made our dog Sniffy howl in pain! Ahhrrrooooooooooooo~ooooooooo~ooooooo!

And now that we've broached the 80s, stiffs, forgottens and frivilous 45s, how about "Too Shy" by Kajagoogoo.

Imagine if you will, Kajagoogoo opening for the Goo Goo Dolls. It would be the Kajagoogoo-GooGooDolls Show. Hey, if the show was at the Whiskey A-Go-Go, it would be the Whiskey A-Go-Go Kajaggogoo GooGooDolls Show. Headline in The LA Times: "Crowd at Whiskey A-Go-Go Goes Ga-Ga over Kajaggogoo - GooGooDolls."

I'm killin' tonight, Jerry, killin'!

Don't have the intro time on Too Shy, but I see this as playing it justfor the bit and then hit the post at about 24 seconds!! Long day today huh? ;D

If kajagoogoo plays with the goo goo dolls at whiskey a go go then make sure the gogos are the opening act that is if belinda hasn't gotten weak.

You beat me to it, qman! Yes, heyday, the "young" was a generic reference. I doubt anyone born after the birth of MTV reads this thread. ;) MTV playing videos? Shirley you jest! ;D

"And the Radio-Info award for the most pages, the most replies and the most views goes to...

that wonderfully creative house painter from South Buffalo...Mr. Michael Radknowski.  Congratulations, Mike!

(loud applause from the audience)

Mike couldn't be here tonight...accepting the award in his behalf is (ggghhsh...oops!  Satellite feed interrupted by heavy snow storm)".

We'll never know!

The satellite feed was interrupted because the Radio-Info Awards Show was being beamed to the world via the world's oldest communications satellite - Telstar. The uplink was interrupted by The Tornados emanating from Great Britain.

Accepting the award for Mr. Radknowski, Uncle Oskie. John C, heaven help us if the number of views on this thread surpasses the Dow. Ouch!

Is this "official", or do they have to go to Florida for a re-count?

Godley and Creme's Cry!!! A great example of a tune you only hear after digging out old airchecks from the 80s!

And here's more from the radio earchive, everyboddddy.....

"Heaven Help Us" - Deon Estus
"Far From Over" - Frank Stallone

And a bonus cut outta da past, off an aircheck when I did an oldies format:

"Toast and Marmalade for Tea" - Tin Tin

Thank you, thank you... please... aw shucks (farts nervously)... c'mon... sidown already... (burps nervously, off mic) the show's running way over... thank you... I'd like to thank the numerous posters who make this thread so weirdly interesting and the great and not-so-great-jocks like me who played the hits. Also Uncle Oskie, Aunts Hellen and Sophie, the guys on the crew and most of all, the Genny... even though the thread could have just as easily been influenced by Pabst, Labatt, Piels, Schaeffer, Rolling Rock or Molson. And I'm hoping the Dow never hits 43 hundred.

Music plays off: CKLW Drake Top of hour Sig establish up and under:
Mr. Big Voice: "From the Forgotten 50s, the Stoned 60s, the Polyester 70s, the Big Hair 80s and Disconnected 90s...
Drake Timp: Mr. Big Voice: "The stiffs just keep on comin'!"
Roll today's tune:

"The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades," Timbuk 3 (this song probably was a hit, but it was just too hip for the room)

Here's a Pet Shop Boy parody dedicated to all radio execs everywhere: You got no brains, you got no brawn, you lost lots of money! :-D

Two more for your collection: I'd Love To Change The World by Ten Years After from 1971 and Once You Undertand by Think from 1972! And, one more, from 1977 I give you Bloat On by the Bloaters!

Well, kids, now that we're into the 80s I could just post all our cfny (that's The Spirit of Radio, NOT The Edge) play lists and it should cover just about any song you can think of.

What's obscure to you all (so far) is high rotation gold for me.

berns with an "e"

I was just digitizing songs from "WKBW Klassics Vol 2" and came across this long forgotten gem: "Evil Woman" by Crow (doing their best Ides of March impression).

Ooh Ooh (I sound like Toody from "Car 54 Where Are You")...how about the followup to The Left Bank's "Walk Away Renee": "Pretty Ballerina"? I always loved that song...and it was indeed a genuine stiff.
