And The Stiffs Just Keep On Comin'

Is the board misbehaving? I seem to find some posts missing - but living on in part as quotes on other posts.

One thing that I don't see is a Saturday night post from our resident painter. Has our "stiff" thread finally run its course? Or did the paint fumes and Genny pounders get to him before he could get to the keyboard?

Well, I tried! It was a cool Saturday night. I bought my propane and propane products and fired up the grill, threw on some brauts and cracked a cold Pabst. Then it hit me! Austin Roberts, "Something's Wrong With Me." Mercy, what a bad song. A bad version of Paul Davis' "I Go Crazy," which was far more authentic. I posted, but it didn't stick. Tried again. Nothing. Feh! I gave up. The thread and the whole board were FUBAR. It's a relief to know that other esteemed posters had the same experience and mine wasn't a figment of too many brauts and one too many Pabst.

I have no idea if THIS post will make it, but here goes.

Here is a great stiff, which is a cover of the original. It is definitely my favorite rendition of:

Misty - Ray Stevens

And may I add that I would bet that the lady who contributed the photos has one very lovely and delightful time in her backyard garden.

I also feel this is the best-ever rendition of Misty. I am so happy to have a 45 of this, and it is in regular play on my pt 15 AM.

WWNY 790- In Watertown- Now WTNY.

They used to have a show around 1976-77 with Danny Burgess and 7pm a couple of nights a week. They would play a song and have you doodle and send your doodling to the station and they would post them in the glass at their studios... Arsenal Street at the time if I am not mistaken.

Anyway.. for the most part, he played American Pie, and you doodled and mailed it in if you were so inclined.

Then, he played other songs. One night, this wacky song "All Strung Out on You Baby" played and son of a gun if the guy singing it was on some show the next Sunday. Who know John Travolta would be a legend. Not for that song though.

I remember being exposed to "Blue Jeans" and "Living Next Door to Alice".

Swear to god, I have all three songs on CD, never heard them on the radio since then...anywhere.

Good one! I thought J.T's only solo song to make the airwaves was Let Her In, which was mentioned about 500 replies ago.

Shriner's Convention - Ray Stevens
Save Me - Silver Convention
Money! Money! Money! - Abba

The Cryan Shames-"Greenberg, Glickstein, Charles, David Smith and Jones". Why on earth did that one pop into my head?
What I really wanted to do was bump this thread back to the top, into recurrent status.

And with this post you've pushed the thread to page #82, this title brings to mind another bizarre-titled tune from that same year (1968) from Cream's Wheels of Fire album: "Pressed Rat and Warthog"

From the same year, Archie Bell and the Drells "I Just Can't Stop Dancin'" which contains the memorable lyric, "...please put that hamburger down, I just wanna dance."

"Double beatin'" on a Saturday night. Two songs for your consideration: First, one that might have been mentioned earlier in this thread. I'm too lazy and a bit mildly buzzed to check. Had I known this thread would last this long, I would have put it in a table. Who knew?! First up, David Dundas, who jocks no doubt called David Dumbass, but never on the air. The song is "Jeans On." Blech! Second, a cool little ditty that would be great for a re-make, the follow up to "The Name Game," (how come she never did "Chuck?") from Shirley Ellis, "The Real Nitty Gritty." The young lady in the YouTube video looks a bit subdued, a little behind the beat, but she's a cute kid who deserves props for picking a cool song to mime.

the follow up to "The Name Game," (how come she never did "Chuck?") from Shirley Ellis,

Shurley you aren't asking? ;D

The song is "Jeans On."

Now we're finally back to stiffs that actually hit the air!

How about "Ariel" by Dean Friedman.......I still get nauseous thinking about it....just like "Jeans On....

Now, Shirley Ellis' "Nitty Gritty"....still a great tune and I agree it's worthy of a remake.......

IIRC, it was Scott Muni who might have asked that same question on the air at WABC back in the day.  Mr. Muni disappeared from Music Radio 77 shortly thereafter.
