but I've gotta imagine this song would be a stiff.
Has anybody heard the song 'Country Gardens'?.
It's a take off of Ricky Nelson's song 'Garden Party' but
instead of naming all the rock and rollers (opened up the closet
door and outstepped Johnny B. Goode) it was changed to country
stars. (opened up the closet door and outstepped JohnnyCash).
I haven't heard this song in a good 35 years or so. Probably
something I heard on WWOL or WXRL.
Anyone heard of this version of Ricky's song?
Not sure of who the artist is - I just know the song's called
Country Gardens.
While Two Hangmen didn't chart, I do have a 45 of it. WNCI/Columbus (still with same calls but a far different format) was in interesting station in the 70-71 era. Two Hangmen and Sweet and Innocent would play back to back with a laid back almost AOR presentation. I heard a lot of great stiffs there...and usually bought them.Bob1370 said:"Holy Modal Rounders - Boobs A Lot WKRQ"
Used to be an almost daily play on the Flying Dutchman's morning show on WNDR in Syracuse back in '74...I think he even got it back on their charts for a while although I don't think it moved into the national action.
"Mason Profitt - Two Hangmen WNCI"
A real 1971-era album rock turntable hit, used to play regularly on WCMF, WPHD, 97 Rock, and WVBR down in the Finger Lakes, not to mention CHUM-FM. I think they all picked it up from Scott Muni at WNEW-FM in NYC.
