Opie & Anthony Suspended By XM Satellite Radio
May 15, 2007

XM Satellite Radio has suspended Opie & Anthony for 30 days, effective immediately. XM also states it has ceased broadcast of the show.

In a release, XM said it "deplored the comments aired on "The Opie & Anthony Show" last week. At the time, the company strongly expressed its views to Opie and Anthony, and they issued an immediate apology."

But even with the apology, it seems comments made by Opie & Anthony yesterday didn't sit well with XM execs, with the company stating the "broadcast put into question whether they appreciate the seriousness of the matter. The management of XM Radio decided to suspend Opie and Anthony to make clear that our on-air talent must take seriously the responsibility that creative freedom requires of them."

The plot thickens: Not only are they suspended but XM will not be running "worst of" either, they will in their stead run Ron and Fez repeats. CBS stands firm

CBS will keep them on, so much for the claim they dont stand behind their talent!. Strange move by CBS though, there could be a backlash against them for it and there is always the possibility that O and A in their anger over being suspended from XM ( I didnt know it was possible) say something stupid on CBS.

Yeah, "It's over Johnny". Apparantly they were suspended by XM because they talked about the Condie bit when they were told not to, and ofcourse they were unable to simply follow a direct order. I understand where they were coming from though there didnt seem to be a way for them to not talk about it but I bet XM's fear was that in doing so they would only make things worse a la Imus and Im sure that is exactly what happened.

Now what if their contract with XM stipulates that they cannot do a show on cbs if they're not also on XM? that's possible since I had heard somewhere that they are really contracted to Xm and cbs really just sort of buys or rents the show from XM. That could really foul everything up for CBS.

Guess it was too much to ask of them to keep their yaps shut about the situation. I don't remember hearing anything they said about the situation, though I listen to the replay on XM and don't hear but maybe 75% of the show anyway.

Mel will be in charge of the company when/if it merges, so he is obviously in contact with those running the show at XM, obviously this has brought lots of negative attention to the medium as a while especiallt Sat radio to the point where certain groups are talking about trying to stop the merger which will be a tough sell to the FCC, the SEC, the DOJ, to begin with. If MEl says " they're getting in my way of this deal you've gotta bounce them" whether he runs XM yet is not the point: THe point is HE WILL, it has been stated that he will be SEO of the new company and run the show. DO you think he would not remember those who defied him NOW when he gets in the corner office LATER? are you kidding?. Of course MEl has huge influence in what happens to them, you're completely lost if you think otherwise. Mel wil not try to silence Howard because Howard is never stupid enough to end up in these situations like Imus, like O and A do repeatedly, like JV and ELvis, ever notice that? when was the last time you heard about Howard being "suspended".

Well if one reveals their source then one can be assured that they will receive no further info from that source. You feel free to believe what you want Rick but naming names does not usually ahppen on an anonymous board. By the way if it makes you feel any better it is an "Unnamed source" ok?. I can't believe IM addressing the fact that I did not sell out someone who gave me info by name to someone who is using Rick Sklar's name and not their own to post under. I have received word that O&A have been FIRED from XM!!!

I was told this by an extremely trusted source, and not an employee/relative of an XM employee.

Get on the phone, cancel your XM. DO NOT take the 30-day credit - CANCEL it! XM will feel that much more on their bottom line than a 30-day dip.

If XM feels the sting of thousands of people canceling their subs, then there is some sort of a chance!

I've heard from a few sources (besides O&A) that Mel and Howard are quite the good buds. Unlike the XM suits, methinkst he'd personally stand up for Howard, as he should, if some controversy were to erupt.

The question is, when was the last time you heard Howard being controversial? He's got that half-a-bil contract now and a fraction of the listeners - he doesn't have to be controversial.
