Andy Furman to start on 1160 WQRT in February

Interesting news...the Furball back in local radio Mon - Friday 5 -7pm strange time slot. Sports talk needs to be on in the morning. It will be interesting to see what develops. Furman is notorious for lack of show prep and atcually trying to help sell his own program or be accomadating to sponsors the sales department will have an up hill battle. I guess Christian Broadcasting must have dEEEEp pockets.

Whole lotta nothing. Crappy signal, crappy station, crappy host. He only had ratings at WLW because the rest of the station had them.

As someone who's worked with Andy, I wonder: where do you get the information that he is infamous for lack of show prep? That's certainly not the Andy I know. The man had three manual typewriters, for crying out loud, and could be heard pounding on them every day. In fact, I'm proud of him for using the one attached to his computer now, he's whipping it up on Facebook and I sincerely doubt that's the only thing he's on the computer to do.

Let's take show prep for what it is... Cliff's Notes on what you plan to do during your airshift.

Well, thats just your opinion and not shared by everyone, to be sure. John Kiesewetter told me that his poll showed 62 percent want Andy back.

1160 doesn't cover Indy, Atlanta or Detroit. It does cover Cincy and, last time i checked, that is the market we want to serve.

You have to go beyond Furman to know the host who didn't prepare. It was Trumpy. Furman worked hard before each show. McConnell sets the standard, but Furman had his nose in prep much more than the average bear.

1160 has a bad signal, especially during his new time slot in the late fall and winter. They are just going to drop him in between two syndicated talk shows. The majority of the market probably soesn't even know this station exists.

I hate to agree, but I must. Not many people I know here in Clermont County knows of the station. Almost everyone on this board does nothing but bad mouth it, regardless of format.

I listened to him for years. While I am no radio pro, it sure struck me that he did his homework. He had a wide array of contacts that were interesting guests and those interviews showed a lot of prep too.

I have never heard of 1160 before this announcement about Andy. I live in Anderson and can get it halfway decently but it won't come in at work (north of 275).

North of 275 should be a no brainer unless you have a lot of interference in the area and one of those steel buildings (daytime signal).
The signal is also streamed on the stations website.

The daytime signal is 5000 watts - and usually would cover all of Hamilton, Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties, and parts of Clermont, Warren, Butler, Dearborn, Ohio, Switzerland, Gallatin, and Grant counties with its local signal.

At night, with its 900 watt authorization - forget it if you live north or west of I-275, or east for that matter, and even in parts of Boone County you'll be lucky to get the distant signal, even with the stick located squarely in east central Boone County. Here at my house in Florence, I pick up both day and night signals of WQRT with zero issues. (It helps that I live roughly 2 miles from the stick.)

With night time signal fading issues from 1160 in Chicago, I do get them at sunset here in Grant County KY. Daytime no problems. Good signal.

My son lives in the Beechmont area just north of the Mall and reception of 1160 is terrible at night. I was amazed that only a few Cinci AMers are actually CLEAR there at night: 550, 700 and 1530. Surprisingly 740 was "listenable" but if you rotated the radio, Toronto was "right there". Lots of crazy nulls in night-time patterns in Cinci for sure!

The signal really is terrible in Clermont County, south of Beechmont, late afternoon and evening.

But I'll still try to listen.

Finally an option to that idiotic WLW 3-6 show and Hannity.

I live in Anderson, just north of Mercy Hospital.

What do you think my odds are of getting a decent signal?

The 1160 signal is decent between 8:45a and 4:15p during winter months, then before and after those times 1160 from Chicago is interferring chatter with the local 1160 signal, I had problems listening to WDJO when they were on that frequency in winter months, so good luck with Andy Furman 5p-7p , at best a limited listening audience maybe until spring , I enjoyed his brand of delivery on WLW but on a Religous Christian owned station like WQRT his humor and outlandish comments may be to much for the ownership to handle and you know what that will mean, goodby Andy. God bless you Andy Furman I will try to listen when Chicago's 1160 is not drowning you out on the airways.
