Quick question for the Beantown faithful:

Does ANY manager allow for interesting, humorous talk any more? I have almost 30 years in the radio/tv biz, did news in Boston years ago, and now just switched to talk in a medium market. I do it the way we always did it, current events, fun, politics, etc a good mix. It's working great here, but I think most radio managers are afraid to go away from the 'formula'. I lead into Rush, Hannity and Savage, yet I don't rant over local politicians like it seems Boston and Prov hosts do. I've been very successful doing it this way. Are their others in Boston doing 'normal' talk?

WBZ's talkers seem to mix it up a bit. It's not all hard-core politics all the time, plenty of discussion of other current events too, at least in the evening. Not usually awake in overnights.

Sorry, but 99% of all local talk is formulaic to aim at the lowest common demoninator. It is pure reactionary radio. The days of pro-active and thoughtful talk - "normal talk" as you called it are gone.
As noted in other post today's talk is predictable on just about every issue and therefore boring to anyone who can think for himself [ or herself]. Simple put local talk apes national with the same mantra - republicans are good and democrats are bad. What a yawn!

Actually, you're quoting yourself, because Menchen never said or wrote this, as you have been informed previously by a reliable poster. Menchen's quote is "'Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public." The quote you may have been searching for was "No one in this world has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people." Since Menchen hasn't said anything new since around 1956, it must be one or the other.

Of course, Menchen was wrong on both counts, as the previousl owners of AAR, your neighborhood Yugo dealer, the inventor of Flooz, and the marketers of New Coke can readily attest.

Liberals right now are some of the angriest people I've ever seen. The angriest "white people" I have ever seen. Probably bummed that the 60's are over! LOL

This is merely an example of "transference": applying your feelings to someone else (who isn't actually feeling that way). Besides, freedom of speech should be just that. I'll defend the right of Howie Carr or Rosie or Imus or Rush or Cindee Sheehan to express their opinion. That's what we are supposed to be all about here in the USA. It's what differentiates us from places like the Islamic Republic of Iran.
