annoying commercials

Those COX spots are the most annoying commercials on the air. Intolerable to watch. The formula of the dim witted parent and the tech savy teen is way overdone with this series of spots. Makes you wonder if they did any market test before airing. It makes over the air local TV unwatchable. Somebody, ANYBODY, PLEASE let the agency know that they should DUMP this concept.

I won't be persuaded to buy anything with the COX name on it. Seems like they are going for the idiot fringe.

Not even close to being the worse. Hasn't CenturyLink (or whatever they call themselves now) been showing the same ad (about 5-year price lock) for the past five years?

Then there's "NOOOOOOBODY BEATS MITCH!" and let's not forget "Lerner & Rowe"

the dimwit parents and "adult" children thing isn't going ANY where. It will only become less noticeable because we'll be inundated with them ad nauseum. There is a reason for these but that's for a whole 'nother forum...

Don't forget about the annoying blonde lady from Express Home Services screech-singing "1-800-EXPRESS!"

And Linda Cobb, The Queen of CleanTM. ::)

How about CBS5's endless self-promoting news spots? "We're asking the tough questions, holding the powerful accountable, and telling it like it is!" I actually loathe watching CBS shows on live tv because of their ridiculous self-promotion.

As a group - car commercials. Specifically the "cash for clunkers" and the screaming Hyundai ads.

The "go see Jack" ad is kind of catchy though. :D

How can anyone do a thread on annoying commercials in Phoenix without mentioning Wonderful Russ? ;D

Not to mention bad grammar.

And that fake "cowboy" accent. It gives 15's "Most (paid for) Accurate Weather Forecast" promos and 10/12's original Christmas songs a run for their money. I'm thinking that the sales force at 5 needs to be more aggressive so there wouldn't be as many holes in their avails in which they can run those promos.

Staying on topic, another classy local advertiser from the past (and, especially past 12 Midnight and 4am), is Trails Department Stores...er....Head Shops.

What about Channel 12's long-running charitable award "12 Who Care"? Every time I hear that advertised, I cringe. I guess the grammar is correct, but it just doesn't sound right.

In the modern era, why don't they change it to "12 Cares" or something that sounds decent? How about "EVB Cares"? ;D

Add to the list that annoying idjit in the Valley Toyota dealer ads

It's great to see Chris Coraggio again. Haven't seen him since he left the sports cave at CBS5.

Yes on the actor that was on CHiPs in the Cox commercials. It turns out the dad and son are also actors in various movies and TV shows. (I never saw them, though.)

I don't think the century Link commercials have been on for five years, but it seems like it. Now, all I see are the ones with the old geezer happy about a five year deal.

The guy in the Toyota commercial is not as funny as he thinks he is.

How about that woman with the law firm? I hate her voice and the jingle is just as bad.

I'm tired of Melvin on those plumbing commercials, and everuytime I hear a George Brazil spot I wonder if they're actually using that song from Guys and Dolls (Fugue for Tinhorns).

And furthermore, WHY does channel five need to promote their newscast WITHIN their newscasts? Not only is their news presentation stupid their promos are too.

</off soapbox>

What's funny about "Holding the Powerful Accountable", "Asking the Tough Questions", "Telling It Like It Is", "Rehashing the Same Old Stories", "Scaring Viewers Half To Death", and "Cramming the Most Anchors onto Our Morning News Set"? Oh, how about the "Valley's ONLY 6:30pm Newscast"? Apparently, they can't actually sell that time during their newscasts.

How 'bout "We're trying to erase the image of us being the "Wallace & Ladmo" station"? :D
