annoying commercials

How 'bout "We're trying to erase the image of us being the "Wallace & Ladmo" station"? :D

I am a relatively recent transplant to the Phoenix area, but of course have read about Wallace and Ladmo show. Was Channel 5 a bit hokey back in the day?

On the contrary. KPHO was one of the finest independent's in the biz. And W&L was, I think, the longest-running children's show in the country when it finally left the air (36 years). The inside joke, of course, was that, like the Warner Bros. cartoons of old, it wasn't really a "kids" show although it had kid-friendly characters.

KPHO was a better-than-average independent back in the day, especially considering that Phoenix was a mid-sized market for most of its run as an indie (1955-94).

KPHO was the only independent game in town for decades (not counting KPAZ-21's half-hearted attempt in the late-'60s and through the '70s). It wasn't until Scripps-Howard bought KNXV and beefed up the programming there that they had real competition. To be honest, KNXV had a better programming lineup as an independent/Fox station than they currently do as an ABC affiliate.

Annoying commercial alert!

The new Parker & Sons commercial with Parker and an older lady staring and commenting on his young plumbers' ...uh... posteriors. More than annoying, it's kinda creepy.

That whole "melvin" thing is terrible.

Wasn't 51 an indie (showing mostly movies) prior to ION?

I thought they were PAX-TV and its successors from Day One.

Education Connection with Kelly the waitress. I've only seen it on the CW during the overnight hours and that's a good place for it.

Considering that I have an Uncle Melvin, I totally agree.

Yes on the actor that was on CHiPs in the Cox commercials. It turns out the dad and son are also actors in various movies and TV shows. (I never saw them, though.)

Mike, I don't know about the son you're talking about in those Cox ads with Robert Pine ("Sgt. Gertraer" from CHiPs) but in real life, Robert's son is the actor Chris Pine, Captain Kirk in the Star Trek reboot.

Yes, but in this case it's Nick Robinson.

Jim Hanna plays the father. Robert Pine plays the father who doesn't want to hog the DVR.

I'm sorry for not being more specific.
