another Boortz whopper

I'm guessing by some of the lame suggestions and ideas that I read on this board that most of the posters have never been in radio, in a radio station. The "rotating cart" is a fact. These days we don't use real "carts," it's all digtal. Boortz and Royal are smart enough not to use any bumber by choice that would be over the line in a sensitive matter like the Virginia Tech shootings.

Why does everyone keep missing the point? Nobody is claiming any 'conspiracies' to 'cover-up' for any misdeeds. Isn't it pretty obvious what happened here?

Yes, I know every station has a 'rotating cart'. I also know every station has an 'open mic' , and if you leave one open when a pornstar is swearing, you get fired. The Boortz show has 5 million listeners. It's a second tier syndicated show! That's when it's time to sweat the 'small stuff'.

It's pretty clear that Royal just punched the rotator, okay? And a song appeared that should not have been there at that time! I just feel a little embarrassed for Boortz in his defense, just like watching Imus supine himself before the right 'reverends'. They are both a little gross, and it is an insult to the intelligence of anyone who's ever punched a button to hear the lame excuse.

Now personally, I like the insensitive bumpers. Just dont 'explain' what happened, ignore the NYT.

Ok gang, had to throw my .02 in (after all, that's what we're here for, right?): 8)

1. Yes, they can still be called 'carts' even if they're 'virtual' now.
2. Yes, they can be rotational.
3. Remember, you can play bumper music from anywhere. CD, PC, an Ipod plugged in to the board right would do it.
4. I've board op'ed for Neil before (between gigs in Newnan, long long ago), and he definitely picks the bumper when he wants to!! If he said he didn't, he said it with a big smirk on that loveable face of his!
5. As an example (and I know I'm dating my tenure there), when Joycelyn Elders came out in favor of...eh..."self-satisfaction" to be taught in health classes, we bumped in from break off a CD that he had handed me just a few seconds before with the stern warning to fade it fast after the first phrase of the chorus.
6. Which was "Firin' the Surgeon General" - a new euphemism.
7. He warned me because the rest of the chorus was the old ones.
8. Good times. :)
9. We also still had plastic, actual carts back then, and he'd throw them at the glass (all in good fun, of course). :D

Edited for typos.

"I've board op'ed for Neil before"

If you had, maybe you'd know he spells his name, N E A L...

Doh! Sorry. Always got him and Hondo confused in the spelling dept. :(
