As one who has to tolerate (i.e. put up with) Christmas music at job #2 (which is almost as bad as 10 rock stations in the market - see another thread), yes, it is a little much. Not only can you not tell the difference between Mix and 'BCN during the day, but now you can't tell the difference between Mix and Oldies (soon to be WZLX-clone WBZ-FM) at nights.
Now what about "Back To The 80s Friday Night," a show which because of its alt-rock heritage actually belongs on 'BCN rather than Mix - and no, Led Zep and AC/DC have nothing to do with new wave whereas Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, Blondie, U2, the Ramones and the Police are all alt-rock's parents IMHO!

Not really considering there's 7 stations playing the stuff in Philly. 3 FM, an HD2, 1AM, and 2 FMs in adjacent markets that can be picked up in parts of the Philly metro area.

105.7 WROR, 106.7 WMJX, part-time 98.5 WBMX, and 99.1 WPLM starting 12/14, will bring the in-market count to essentially four.
It's the out-of-market stations that are making it torture. 95.7 WZID, 96.1 WSRS, 101.5 WWBB, 105.1 WWLI all throw strong Class B signals through much of the Boston market. Add to that the weaker out-of-market stations: 98.9 WORC, 103.9 WKPE, 106.1 WCOD, 107.1 WERZ, and on the fringe, 94.9 WHOM. So total, 13 all-Christmas stations can be heard in areas of the Boston market - way more then ever before.

DJbobo said:It's a stretch to include Magic in your sweeping observation. Magic only plays a song or two an hour and it's usually by an artist within their playlist. They've been mixing in Christmas tunes during this time of year ever since they've been on the air.

Meanwhile on co-owned Magic 98.3 in central NJ, they've been caroling since November 15th, despite competition from 3 other Christmas stations. Greater Media's Now 97.5 in Philly flipped to all-Christmas right before the kids started trick-or-treating. Don't be surprised if Magic 106.7 flips on Halloween next year, with Oldies 103.3 and 105.7 WROR flipping November 1.encarta95 said:DJbobo said:It's a stretch to include Magic in your sweeping observation. Oops, meant Oldies - not Magic. Magic has actually been doing a great job of combining a tolerable amount of seasonal music with their normal soft rock playlist.

I know, right? 'Cause 'BCN plays so much Pink, Christina, Britney, Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Rihanna, Nickelback, Sarah McLachlan, Barenaked Ladies, Colbie Callait, Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado...while Mix is all over Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Metallica, and Weezer.
Clueless.

I think you're getting the two reversed.

Um, I think it's called sarcasm.
