Another Clear Channel Spinoff....

Not all, Waco is being kept.

I used to work in Wichita Falls at KNIN a few years ago, and I know quite a few people in the West Texas region that are/were with CC and on a personal note I wish them all the best, all those folks are great people and dedicated broadcasters.

As I said on the Louisiana boards, I hope GAP brings more localism to these stations. It would be nice to hear LOCAL talent on KNUE, KISX, KKTX, and KTYL, in all time periods. I doubt it will happen, but I will keep my fingers crossed.

Is Victoria sold?

I didn't see El Paso, Corpus Christi, Bryan-College Station, McAllen-Brownsville-Harlingen, and Beaumont-Port Arhtur-Orange.
This means that NOT ALL are being sold.

those are all rated markets...I think most of the Texas spin offs are non-rated.

Waco is being kept because of its proximity to Austin. College Station is being kept because of aTm sports. Harlingen, McA, Elp and Corpus; I can't speak for...Meaning just because Laughlin bought us, doesn't mean CC doesn't have something in the works for those markets. I also know that GAP is working on building a WAN line to connect the stations...maybe or maybe not for tracking purposes...nobody really knows. Hell, nobody thought that CC would accept George's bid on the 11 markets he (GAP) got. I just hope that I won't have a problem with the insurance changeover.

CC lost A&M sports more than a year ago. So that is definitely not the reason they are keeping those stations. Possibly Lowry's ties with the school play a role.

Being close to Austin has nothing to do with CC keeping Waco. The fact that they have bought or LMAd stations that now position them in violation of every duopoly and antitrust scenario imaginable might have something to do with it. It's the most thorough example of market domination in any rated market, hands down. No single entity could buy that group intact.

What company baught Victoria stations was that listed?

Incorrect.

Abilene - RATED
Amarillo - RATED
Lubbock - RATED
Lufkin - RATED
Midland - RATED
Texarkana - RATED
Tyler - RATED
Victoria - NOT RATED**
Wichita Falls - RATED

... per the press release, a new company "GAP Broadcasting, LLC" is purchasing all stations.

It's supposed to be markets 100 and lower....Thats what the release said a few months back. As for the Tyler and a couple other markets...I hear the new owner WAS all fired up about new, live talent....til he made a market visit and crucnhed the numbers and saw how much goes tot he bottom line when you don't have jocks. I wonder how the VTing will commence. Are these markets gonna be cut off the CC wan???? I've done my sahre of tracking...and if I have to record each break, convert to an mp3, then email it...it aint worth the $5-6K these markets will pay.

Apparently there is a WAN line being built to connect all the stations. Much like a MINI ME of what was already in place. BUT...who is to friggin' say? Come on guys, Wish George well in his endeavor and lets all quit being Monday morning quarterbacks on this stuff. Question: If you had the backing he has...would you put your nuts in the table?

CSB, BPT and other are below market 100 but they arent for sale from what I see.....Installing T1s or similar to a new corp location is not that rough...depending on the discount, you can get a T1 under $500 in Texas (point to point)...DSL is cheaper and would also work (VT doesnt need that much bandwidth)

Is GAP even keeping NexGen? Does anybody really know?

thats the thing...Nobody knows

My point EXACTLY! Why all this speculation about a WAN and VT if nobody knows ANYTHING yet? That's rediculous.

Racer X is correct about Bryan-College Station. If it weren't for the Mays family ties to Texas A&M, B/CS would have been sold. As for Waco, you are correct, as well. But I'll add one more thought. Although Arbitron considers Waco and Killeen as separate markets, CC considers them as one...equivalent to Market 93. The cluster pulls-in more than $10 million per year. WACO-FM (country) pulls in more than $3 million per year alone...and consistently cumes over 135,000.

well considering that these markets affected import at least 50% of their content....it's gonna be interesting if the CC Mothership severs the line. These are markets where 3 or 4 fulltime people run 3 or 4 stations. Now THAT is what's rediculous.
