Another I Told you so

WQCD is 8th and up to a 3.3 12+. You wonder if this is where some of the Lite... excuse me... New York's 106.7 listeners have gone.

12+, WLTW is 2nd behind Z-100 @ 4.5, the first time it has been out of #1 in a long time. Last fall, when it was still known as LITE FM, it had a 7.1

WWFS is off 12+ from a 2.9 to 2.7. I do not have the 25-54's. CBS-FM is at a 3.1 12+, up from 2.2.

Here is the #1 station in New York (excuse me, was) and the top biller in the country and they saw the need to make a drastic change in their imaging? Shall we repaint the Sistine Chapel?

Wow, even behind CD 101.9 if I'm not mistaken. Where's Fresh in 25-54?

In the August extrap, right behind WLTW.

Why was it a reign of terror? For years it was stable as a rock, quality personalities and a well known brand. Corporate screwed with it and now has a mess. What a surprise!

Be that as it may, for years it was stable and successful. It may not have been everyone's cup of tea, but more people listened to it than anything else.

Now, NEW YORK's 106.7 is N-I-N-T-H 25-54 in the last trend.

Why do people play with things that work????

They are not ninth because of the changes they made, they are ninth because of what has happenned in the market around them.

If they didn't make any changes or updates....they might not even in the top 10!

How did Hot 97 (WQHT-FM 97.1) do?

25-54 august only extrap: WBLS, WHTZ/WCBS FM (Tie), WSKQ, WKTU, WAXQ, WRKS, WQCD, WQHT, WPAT, WLTW, WWFS, WPLJ

25-54 three month trend: WBLS, WRKS, WHTZ, WSKQ, WLTW, WAXQ. WPAT, WKTU, CS-FM, WQCD, WWFS, WQHT, WINS, WWPR.

Agreed. WLTW was no. 1 by default. With WCBS and WWFS now competing it's obvious they would lose some numbers.
Tweaking it was actually smart. The moniker LITE to many signifies Barry Manilow and Rod Stewart.
While that may not have been true, their New York's 106.7 moniker represents a "true" mix of music thus appealing to more of a vast audience.

Wow, I guess WBLS had some great numbers in August.

David, how did Hot 97 do in its targetted 18-34? How well did Z-100 do? How is WXRK doing in the extrapolated month of August now that they're back to playing Rock?

They are 9th because of the changes they made. These changes allowed audiences to discover other stations around them. The station sounds terrible now from the point of a mainstream AC, which is what they should be and not anything else.

Incorrect. LTW hadn't aired a Manilow record in regular rotation over a decade. The brand was as ingrained in people's mind as Z and WINS. You don't change that because the upstart at 102.7 has its 7th format in 6 years... and 2nd AC format in 4 years.

When the competition comes on, your reaction is to reinforce what you do best, not blow it up and pretend to be the 3rd new station, which is what they sound like now.

And as far as what LTW should be playing, Stewart should still be in the playlist, that is part of the problem. Tweaking the #1 station with the highest billing in the country in such a drastic way was suicide. They've basically changed the format over the last 18 months. Assinine.

I can't blame CBS-FM... because they're too new and WWFS is slipping while LTW is also slipping. The audience is defecting somewhere else... and probably never coming back. Ryan blew it.

Not true. "Lite" was one of the first stations to add Barry's version of "Unchained Melody" from his "Greatest Songs of the 50's" in November of '05.

The thing is I don't see WLTW doing too much different than WEBE 108 the most popular station in Connecticut and Walk 97.5 the most popular station on Long Island is doing. If you look at their most recent playlists you probably won't notice too much difference. In the 11 am hour WEBE has played such contemporary music as Lifehouse You and Me, the Fray with Over My Head, and Nickelback with Far Away. Over at Walk 97.5 recent songs have included 100 Years by Five for Fighting, Black Horse and the Cherry Tree by KT Tunstall and a hard-rock song Addicted to Love from Robert Palmer. I think the most likely explanation is that WLTW has indeed been hurt by the increased competition and not the formatic changes made at the station. WALK and WEBE generally share the same playlist as WLTW and neither station has suffered any damage.

Soul II Soul

Everything I Do I Do It For You
Bryan Adams

Michael Jackson

WLTW looks much better then boring ass WEBE. Ballad after ballad....zzzzzzz, snore.
Who says Soul II Soul or the Police can't fit on on AC? And Michael Jackson doesn't fit on an A/C???? You do realize not all A/Cs have to be light rock stations playing nothing but Celeine Dion/Michael Bolton records all day.
