Another I Told you so

That's not the Michael Jackson record to be playing at 4pm. It's almost 5+ minutes long (I don't think there is a 45 edit)... too much for a very dated song from an artist that doesn't exactly score high marks anymore.

Everything on WEBE is a popular familiar song, nothing too hard or overly soft... exactly what an AC should be. Do I LIKE every song on WEBE? If I look at the list, there are maybe 10 songs I personally like... the rest is drivel to ME... but works for AC.

I like Roxanne, but it has no place on LTW at 4pm. It's not about what you like, it's what about fits and sounds right. Kaminski and Ryan should leave Roxanne on PLJ.

Agreed. WLTW was no. 1 by default. With WCBS and WWFS now competing it's obvious they would lose some numbers.
Tweaking it was actually smart. The moniker LITE to many signifies Barry Manilow and Rod Stewart.
While that may not have been true, their New York's 106.7 moniker represents a "true" mix of music thus appealing to more of a vast audience.

Incorrect. LTW hadn't aired a Manilow record in regular rotation over a decade. The brand was as ingrained in people's mind as Z and WINS. You don't change that because the upstart at 102.7 has its 7th format in 6 years... and 2nd AC format in 4 years.

When the competition comes on, your reaction is to reinforce what you do best, not blow it up and pretend to be the 3rd new station, which is what they sound like now.

And as far as what LTW should be playing, Stewart should still be in the playlist, that is part of the problem. Tweaking the #1 station with the highest billing in the country in such a drastic way was suicide. They've basically changed the format over the last 18 months. Assinine.

I can't blame CBS-FM... because they're too new and WWFS is slipping while LTW is also slipping. The audience is defecting somewhere else... and probably never coming back. Ryan blew it.

You missed the point. While the old LTW didn't play Manilow, the idea to non LITE fans was that it did just as the new Fresh commercial played Debbie Boone as an example of LITE's boring stale format even though it of course did not play Debbie Boone.
That being said it was and is time for a younger sound and New York's 106.7 has done just that and it is obvious as well that with increased competition they would lose some listeners. I think you put way too much emphasis or their format tweak which is minor for their declining numbers but you're entitled to your opinion.

So the idea is to react to a commercial from an upstart that basically didn't have a pulse for the last 6 years?

Great! It's more than the format tweak, it's screwing with the whole identity. It would be like changing the name of Cadillac to Leland. You just don't do some things... especially when you are AT the top AND you are being challenged.

The thing is I don't see WLTW doing too much different than WEBE 108 the most popular station in Connecticut.

WEBE 108 isn't the most popular station in Connecticut. How can it be if it can't be heard in the entire state. WEBE doesn't even make it in the Hartford ratings. Just once in a while you will see Star 99.9 WEZN Bridgeport.
