You still didn't answer the question. And for someone who's a GM of a multicultural radio station you sure are presumptuous about other ethnic groups. The Caribbean Community is doing something, they are being entrepreneurial about the situation. It's not ideal but their pirate radio stations are a reaction to the lack of representation on the radio dial, and after reading your posts I don't blame them for skipping your station. As for the African American and Latino communities, both have an already existing audience here and have had major full time stations on the dial. Your points are moot: the black community doesn't need to beg for a 1/2 hour gig on your station to prove they have an audience in this town. And you'd never even suggest that to white listeners of other dismally performing formats (i.e WFNX).
So breaking the law is OK if it fits your agenda?
Pirate radio is illegal. I don't have an agenda on this. The fact is that they're illegal. Any pirate. Any format. There's absolutely nothing justifiable about them.
I understand what you're trying to illustrate. But, pirate radio is a bad example of an ethnic group doing something positive to attempt to balance any perceived inequity. The message is sound. The logic is flawed.
And once again, you seem to fail to accept the fact that Radio One CHOSE to sell WILD to Entercom. Nobody forced their hands. Nobody said "Hey, abandon the audience your station was serving, and doing so better than some other stations in the market."
It was a choice to sell. They made it, and quite frankly, the audience had nothing to do with it. Nor, did ratings. It was a financial decision. And by all accounts from a business standpoint, a good one.
I reiterate. If there's a market that's not being served, and it is a good financial move for a radio company to sign on/flip their signal to serve that market, it WILL happen. A market study will be done, and depending on the data mined, the decision will be made. Gripe all you want. But, that's it. End of story. Nobody screwed any minority. One business sold out to another.
Sorry it doesn't cater to your agenda. But, life sucks sometimes. You have every choice to try to put together a group of investors and change the game. And before you pull the "what white owner blah blah?"...The "black owners" sold out. By choice. And seeing as you appear to have no interest in not considering skin pigment, instead of looking at it as the loss of a minority-targeted radio station, it could be looked upon as a minority-owned company enjoying a financial windfall as a result of its hard work.
Too many times people need to gripe and see the glass as half-empty. Because only unrest seems to give them a voice. Peace doesn't sell.
