Another Sign of Talk Radio Decline? - Limbaugh can't Afford New York City

I think Rush is right to leave New York, they are even trying to tax soda pop! I am an Independent, so I will not
get into the political issue's. I would just like to ask a question, do you not think these types of taxes are getting
out of hand? Cigarettes were just raised $6.50 nationwide, and the new Governor of Illinois wants to tack on another
$10.00 per carton, plus raise the taxes on our license plates, driver's licenses' and a hefty income tax increase. The
taxes in major cities are getting too high for the average person to stomach. We all know the goal of increasing
the tax on cigarettes is not to get people to quit. It is a regressive tax placed on an addictive product, and it hurts
lower income people more than it does the more well off. Please don't give me the argument that smoker's drain the
health care system because of smoking related illnesses, because I did the math, and I've already paid enough in
cigarette taxes alone to pay for 5 sick smoker's.

If Rush is making his point because this is truly how he feels, or for publicity makes no difference to me, he is right.
We need to remember he is a radio host and can easily be ignored by changing the station. Am I able to stop being
being forced to pay ridiculous taxes by hitting a button? NO, I am not. I either have to keep giving more and more of
my hard earned money to the government or find another country to live in.

I love Chicago, but, I don't have to live here, and it is getting to the point that I'm considering leaving the city I love
because they are taxing me out of it. In ending I would just like to say that the drug reference's and weight jokes
about Rush are very childish and getting old. Whether you like him or hate him, he is still a human being, with personal
problems just like anyone else. Is there anyone out there who has not made mistakes, or has had a relative or friend that
has had a problem like he has? Maybe alcohol, depression, substance abuse of some kind? Do you not know anyone who
is overweight? These comments hurt people, and stop people with problems from getting the help they need. He has gotten
the help he needed. Can we please stop having posts about talk show host's turn into hate posts.

Why wouldn't you move to a low tax state if you could?

Taxes have little to do with it. Businesses don't move because of taxes, and people don't move because of taxes. It happens that tons of people WANT to live in New York, and this makes it pricey. That's it. Same with San Francisco, Tokyo, London, Paris, etc.

Well put, David. But don't expect many on the right to get it--they have only two words in their vocabulary--TAX CUT , which they repeat incessantly--it's become the basis for their judgements on all things in politics and in the media.
They need to get out more.

Yep, EVERYONE on the right is narrow-minded and selfish. Everyone on the left has America's best interests at heart 24/7. Great people.

Except that some either don't notice, or pretend not to notice that their paychecks are somewhat heftier as a result of less withholding from average, working Americans. Not everyone gets a five year contract worth a few hundred million dollars - except primarily liberals. I frankly have not forgotten that Rush Limbaugh came right out on the air days before the 1992 election and said, pretending that he was just kidding, that he was voting for Bill Clinton because George HW Bush signed a tax increase. Rush Limbaugh became a very wealthy man as a result of his Democrat vote, and I don't think "rugged individualism" had anything to do with it.

As a real conservative I prefer to render my judgments based upon the Ronald Reagan standard about whether I am better off today than I was yesterday. That is not a collective call to make.

It is important to remember that Rush Limbaugh is a radio personality who has either never had to struggle, or has forgotten where he came from if he did have to struggle. I did not hear when he told people to cross over to vote for Hillary Clinton in primaries. I do, however, remember the 2000 primary elections when George W. Bush came out with some serious facts. I voted for GW in the GOP primary in 2000, I voted for him in the 2000 General Election, the 2004 General Election; and I deferred to his judgment in the 2000 GOP primary when I did not vote for John McCain in 2008 - not in the GOP primary, and not in the General Election.

Rush Limbaugh was not a factor in my vote, and he is not a factor in my day to day life, for which I have to take responsibility. All these millionaires and billionaires don't seem to have been able to pony up to create any jobs with their tax cuts - including Rush Limbaugh who calls for bake sales as I recall.

If you have been following the news, Donald Trump is threatening to move everything to Florida because of those taxes.

Donald Trump is a publicity machine. It is a known fact (and I can find a cite if you want) that the top reasons businesses locate in a particular area are, first and foremost, having an EDUCATED work force. Taxation is way down the list at about #7 or so.

There is a reason why so many high tech companies locate in the San Francisco Bay Area, even with our high cost of living. We have an EDUCATED work force here. In fact, companies such as Yahoo and Google charter buses to pick up employees from 40 miles away to bring them to work, so desperate they are to have an EDUCATED work force available to them.

Taxes figure very little in the expenses of any given company. I say this as a principal in several businesses, including a restaurant, telephone call center, and moving company.

Rush Limbaugh probably bought his NYC residence at the height of the market and now finds himself under water due to his own stupidity. (When everybody wants to buy, what you do is sell, not buy!) So, he's finding it beneficial to his show to harp on taxes, not on his stupidity.

Couldn't have said it better myself, Parttimer. You're a highly enlightened man.
