Any good renewal deals?

I'm coming upon my renewal in about another week. I've paid annually (a pretty rock bottom price, about $60 for the year plus tax and fees. I've done that twice since our original 3-month trial expired. I've also done it through the automated system when the call center was closed (on purpose). Tonight, they offered the platinum plan for $11.99 a month plus tax and fees. I said "no" to that. The automated system told me they could not transfer me (to retention) as the center was closed. So....what's my next move? (I know that folks have cancelled then re-signed up for the new customer deal.).

Call them tomorrow and say you'll renew for the $60/year rate, otherwise you can't afford it. That's my plan for renewal in January. If they say no, I cancel. They'll come back with another offer quickly, I'm sure.

As it happens, that's exactly what I did. The automated phone rep offered $11.99 a month for platinum. I said no and was told to call back. I elected to use chat, They offered the same $11.99 a month, I said no, i don't need Platinum (Stern, Pandora, etc just Music and Entertainment (formerly Select) and I asked for the $60 rate and got it,

I'm on my 3rd year of doing this I just got a renewal notice for $23.23 a month, yeah right! i did a chat on line and got my usual $6 a month for the whole 9 yards package for the year.

It's amazing what some companies will offer when you say you're simply walking away from them because the price is too high. Even though I tell McAfee every year to shut off my auto-renew, each year I get an astronomical bill for anti-virus protection. Each year I call, they drop the price, I tell them I'm not paying that and I'll go with another service, and end up paying about 1/3 of the price they'd originally charged. It was the same when I used Comcast for my home internet service. They'd give me an introductory price for a year, it'd expire and they'd try and charge me full price, I'd call, threaten to go to any number of other ISPs and they'd come up with another low price offer for another year. The only company that never seemed to work with was when I once used AT&T for home internet. Once the introductory price expired they would not negotiate. Full price it was. In that case I simply dropped them, returned their modem and switched ISP providers to get a better deal.

I have two SiriusXM subscriptions. For one of them I called so many times over the years and told them it was too much for a part time car (true) that they put me on a permanent discount. That one is around $104 per year. On my other one I called a couple of weeks ago before it renewed and got $92 for the year. That's including all fees.

I'll never pay their full price. I'm not fibbing to them when I say I will cancel.

Congrats. Went on their message service the other day as planned and got the renewal at the introductory price.

Did you actually have to cancel the service...or just threatened to do so?

I remember negotiating a low price for a 2nd landline that I used for fax (and dial up), and couldn't get them to lower the price after multiple phone calls. When I let the line expire...I was inundated with promotional "please come back" mailings...and a lower price than they ever offerred during my "negotiations".

I've heard of people cancelling their internet and actually letting it get shut off for a day, then having another family member calling to get a 'new' promotional price....but you had to actually let it lapse to get them to really deal.

In my experience with Comcast internet service specifically (I never had any other services like TV from them back then and haven't bothered with home phone service in several years), I'd wait for the introductory deal to expire. My bill would go to full price and that's when I'd call them. That said, I was also fully prepared to leave them if they didn't come down on price to what I knew I could get the same speeds for from AT&T or other ISPs in my area. In other words, I wasn't bluffing. Why pay more $$ for Comcast when others were offering better deals.

I can't believe it; they didn't call my bluff this time. I had always asked about better offers available when my yearly subscription was about to expire. I was either given one without a fight except for a few times when I had to threaten to cancel. It was not the case today when I called seeking a better rate before my renewal which would have been the next day. They initially offered me a lower rate, but I was looking over my particular package and noticed some channels I listened to were no longer available once I renewed. I would have to get their top tier package which they would charge me an additional $50.00 for the year. I told them no and threatened to cancel after being with Sirius since 2005. They acknowledged the fact that I was a long time subscriber and put me on hold for several minutes to see what they could do. They came back and said nothing could be done about the price, so I cancelled my service.

After many years of making my annual SiriusXM "threatening to quit" phone call, I'm apparently now locked into the +/- $60/yr price. I'll keep an eye on it.
