Any Guesses For The #'s Coming Out?

The people who pronounced the Fan DOA mostly wanted 93.7 to go urban. (Having said that, the ratings would be absolutely amazing if the product wasn't awful).

I don't disagree ... but what specifically is awful about 93.7 the fan?

Where do I start?

Alexander brings nothing. No insights, no comedy, nothing.

Gianotti is a good sidekick who has to run the show.

New York accents all over the station. I half expect the ID to "New Jersey's 93.7 the Fan".

No chemistry, as pointed out by Boss.

Vinnie brings nothing. He's a pleasant enough guy and people seem to like him, but he's a lifelong baseball guy and that's all he knows.

I know they want to focus locally, but sometimes they will manufacture a really stupid local topic and ignore a national story that might be worth discussing.

Seibel is the best talent on the station but there are too many people on in the afternoon, specifically Josh Miller, who adds nothing.

They seem to feel that what people here want to do, more than anything else, is call in and talk about how great their teams are. A valid assumption in New York, where people would do entire shows on the greatness of Derek Jeter if you let them, not so much here.

They let callers go on too long.

Bottom line is they hired a bunch of TV people and writers, and none of them are good talk show hosts. It doesn't always translate.

But what do I know... I like Colin Cowherd on ESPN and to say he bombed here would be an understatement.

Agreed. Paul Alexander thinks he is funny and clever. But in reality he is neither. The New York connection/accents are not enticing me to listen. The out of towners with the exception of John Seibel have not impressed me. I dislike Andrew Philip Pony the most. I, too, am a big fan of Colin Cowherd and listen to his podcasts every day. All in all, I have not been a fan of The Fan.

What I would do with the Fan (short of blowing it up and completely starting over)....

Seibel and Starkey mornings.... change the focus from call-in to an ESPN-type show (which Seibel has done) heavy on news, opinion and interviews, including a cast of "insiders" from various sports.

Junker and Gianotti middays... this is already their highest-rated time slot, the addition of a local name would potentially put the numbers over the top

Alexander, Cook and Miller afternoons.... however Alexander might not be able to do this with his Root Sports studio schedule. I will say, however, that there are nights after Pirate games that he looks really tired. Maybe he could do the show from the Root studios. I think Miller wants to grow into a hosting role as a career, let him be the lead when Alexander's otherwise committed.

Move Vinnie to nights to wrap around baseball. He held this role in San Francisco and Seattle to my knowledge.

Filliponi (a/k/a Phillip Pony, lol) goes late night and moves around the schedule as the fill-in on all shifts.

You guys were trashing The Fan when they had a 2 share, you were trashing the fan when they had a 2.5, 3.0 3.5, now 4. What share does The Fan have to reach for you to just shut up and let them be "The Fan". Is it 4.5, 5.0, 6.0. I know, if they just let you be in charge why the sky would be the limit. Dream on.

Yeah you're right StageFright. Why have dreams? Why have goals? Why try to improve? Why think outside the box? Being mediocre is O.K. These are some of the many reasons why Pittsburgh radio is in the sad shape it is.

The 4 is their annual Steelers bump. They'll go back down once the season is over. You don't think the station could be better?

Because it's the same crappy product that debuted with a 2, and it's winning by sheer virtue of being on FM.

I wonder whether WWCS shows up at all? We have such a small Hispanic population around
here I have to wonder if that's working for them.

Speaking of the FAN, I only scan over the station as it's largely unlistenable but I caught a curious statement by Paul Alexander. He stated that he knew for years the story of the Jerry Sandusky situation at Penn State and claims to have reported it authorities. Does anyone buy this? From a guy who has been a Penn State cheerleader, I find it curious. Also, as an aside, what's the general feeling about the sports reporters/commentators who claim to have known about these terrible events but never reported it the public. Should they held accountable as well?

IF he knew about this and reported it to the authorities, why do we need to know that? In my opnion,, he is granstanding now and attaching himself to the story. PATHETIC! I always thought he was the WORST sports guy in town. Now, it's proven to me.

I predict the Penn State fiasco is good for at least a half point in the next ratings for the Fan, maybe even a whole point. I think they are doing an excellent job covering it.

I was pretty close to being right about the half point. 4.0 to 4.4., missed by by a tenth of a point. Keep up the good work Fan, you're doing a good job.

Of the full powered commercial FM sticks, Star is now the lowest rated. They've slipped below WLTJ. WLTJ transitioning to HOT AC from the quirky AC-HOT AC mess has been a smart move for them.

With Mark Anderson in the drivers seat and a rebrand to 100.7 STAR (new logo on facebook), I wonder if a further push towards CHR is in the cards. They rank 6th by cume. It's got to be second choice for 96.1 listeners

WAMO is slipping.

Country is down again. If you add the Froggy's, they come close to Y108's numbers.

Nice to see KDKA up again. WSHH is strong, pre-Christmas. Someone made a comment that PPM is targeted more towards the large stations instead of the surburbans, yet The Pickle has a combined 2.6, and several other decent sticks have a .7 and .4.
