I could see KFAT switching formats, but it's unlikely as NNB has other underperforming stations in the building. The Buzz got its ass handed to it by Mix and KRPM by the Fox in this last book, so there's two stations that I'd watch to see if they flip formats anytime soon. Hard to say what a format hole is in this market, I agree with the Urban AC idea, however Morris and Clear won't do it, and I find it hard to believe that NNB would put anything on the air that might remotely compete with KFAT. Who knows, if 94.7 the End keeps having 30 second stop sets, maybe that'd be the station to go 'Movin', doubt it though.
Bob FM is doing really well, so its unlikely NNB would do this, but I think there's a remote chance that someone would throw on a AAA station. Not saying Bob is AAA, but it is a station that focuses on having a large library like a AAA station would. I'm surprised Anchorage doesn't have one, and that format along with classical and smooth jazz is one of those 'money' stations that doesn't require a huge audience to turn a profit. 103.7 the Mountain in Seattle is a huge biller, I'm very surprised that kind of station hasn't made its way up to Anchorage yet. Who knows, it could happen!
What do you all think of the stations on the air right now? I think Anchorage radio is in a pretty sad state personally. KFAT sounds terrible right now, same with Buzz, and the Clear Channel stations are OK, but nothing spectacular. I think it's an interesting move for the Fox to be airing Seahawks games when they have a sports station in the building that could use that kind of draw! The Morris stations are doing good, but again, not rockin the boat by any means.
Any thoughts?
