Any WBZ rebranding updates?

JG mentioned a while back that he heard CBS4 calling themselves "WBZ TV" without any log revisions. Has this continued? Any new logos spotted on the air over there? I have not seen anything on their web site yet?

Just saw a promo for New Years coverage during the Pats game. Announcer said, "The Countdown To Midnight, Tonight On WBZ." However they were using the "CBS 4" logo on screen.

Heard during there coverage a few plugs of WBZ 4 and WBZ TV. Interesting to hear again.

I heard the WBZ - TV mention as well.

I imagine there will be a big introduction with at new news set.

As I am typing this I have WBZ Radio on and they just did a weather segment with " WBZ TV's meteorologist Barry Burbank." So, the change from CBS 4 back to WBZ TV has started in the radio newsroom.

Now, if we can only convince the new owners of the Ritz Carleton Hotel not to change the name to the Taj. That is a bizzzzzzzzzare change. The "Ritz" means elegance and sophistication. What does the Taj mean?

The change will take place by or on January 15. On that date, the station will launch a new initiative, "Project Mass." The series will focus reports on government, transit, healthcare, education, finance, and the environment. Basically, focusing on the changes that have, and will, take place in the Commonwealth this year.

They have begun airing promos for the series already today. Keep an eye out. Just by the production of the promo alone, you can tell there's new, positive direction at the station. It's well produced and has fantastic imagery.

Considering that sister WWL TV (CBS O&O Detroit) doesn't even run a local newscast, sounds like some positive attention indeed for WBZ TV!

Ed Piette's strategy? Reclaim WBZ name and its local identity
---------------------------------------------------------------

Not long after he was named by CBS Corp. as general manager of its Boston television station, Ed Piette landed at Logan Airport, hopped in a cab and ordered the driver to take him to the CBS 4 studios in Brighton.

"Hey," Piette recalled the cabbie asking, "Whatever happened to WBZ?"

Seven months later, that reaction is very much on the mind of Piette as he tries to turn around WBZ-TV Channel 4, which has operated in recent years under the corporate brand "CBS 4." For Piette, the cab driver's question crystallized what had gone wrong during a long tumble to the bottom of the ratings: The station that brought television to Boston more than 50 years ago had lost its local identity.

Yup, he's da guy!

I remember living in the Twin Cities when I was a toddler, we were there for 5 years. WCCO's logo was a blue circle with a fancy yellow 4, and the station was always refered to as "WCCO 4." It was the news that everyone watched. The that market was going through a lot of affiliation changes in the 70s, and WCCO ran promos reminding people that they had always been CBS and always will be.

Ed is certainly doing the right thing. Based on what I've read in this article, and from what I remember WBZ being like in the 70s and 80s, he gets it!

Word is that the big WBZ-TV comeback will take place this Sunday night. Lisa-Jack-Ken-Lobel are scheduled to anchor the 11pm cast.

Can somebody please record the opening and closings and post them to youtube (if this really is the premiere)? Thanks. ;)

Boris: where did you get this "word" from? Source of information please? Since your post, you made the fools over at Boston TV News *[EDIT]* over the alleged rebranding debut. Well that site is a fountain of misinformation anyway, [EDIT].

Would you believe that someone already changed WBZ TV's Wikipedia page so that it says the change will happen January 14th? So if not tonight, whoever did that will have to change it back...

I do know that as of Friday evening the plan is/was to have the principal team (Williams, Hughes, Barlow, Lobel) anchor tonight's 11pm newscast; probably because of tonight's Patriots game.

The last time a graphics change took place (from black and gold to the current blue and white), it was on Martin Luther King Day. So, it's conceivable the change happens this weekend.

'BZ has been promoting this new Project Mass. initiative (http://cbs4boston.com/press/local_story_012102701.html). It's interesting to note that, like with First Night coverage, they only mention "WBZ-TV," for the station, but web branding remains "cbs4boston.com."

I can only imagine that they will change the web brand too, however. The new TV38 homepage (www.tv38.com), has news headlines from "wbztv.com."

Time will tell.

Bostonmediaguy, on that Project Mass page link you posted, it says,

"Monday at 11 on WBZ-TV News"..... NOT CBS4 News

Hmm... I wonder if they will change tomorrow.

Interesting, now the "January 14th" statement that was on Wikipedia's WBZ-TV page just a few hours ago has suddenly disappeared. It's like somebody is sitting there watching the TV and posting as they watch.
