Any WBZ rebranding updates?

Boris: where did you get this "word" from? Source of information please? Since your post, you made the fools over at Boston TV News *[EDIT]* over the alleged rebranding debut. Well that site is a fountain of misinformation anyway, [EDIT].

Well, that just about says it, doesn't it? Inflammatory.

We quoted "a poster on Radio-Info" as the source of the so-called "information" (Actually, I didn't, whoever updated the front page did, but I stand by them in this case.); we never laid any claim to its validity or lack thereof. Nor did we "cream in our pants" - that thread has been relatively inactive over the past few days. I have heard that today may in fact be the day. January 15th (not 14th) is a date I've heard from legit sources several times. I think someone got a little overexcited because of it coinciding the Pats game, and it ended up becoming something people latched onto.

Think before you post, Johnny Boy.

Mr. Pancakes,
I don't understand how you know whether Max works in Broadcasting or not?

Also Max,
It is a problem that the source of the information for your website came from radio-info, because somebody then came on radio-info and said "BTVN is reporting that..." Which means it was a circular claim, and how could it come from here, if we were the ones asking in the first place? If we knew the date of the changeover, we wouldn't need it from BTVN anyway. So if the source actually came from here, then it can not be a reliable source to begin with, because nobody here that I am aware of actually knows the date (or is not saying if they do).

Either way, I think we are getting far off the topic here.

I think you lost me at the second double negative, but never mind! ;D

I don't work in broadcasting, but I'm very familiar with a great many people who do, as well as with the market itself.

And for the record - and this IS coming from BTVN now - I have a source claiming that the rebrand will happen on Super Bowl night, presumably regardless of whether the Pats make it all the way or not, as the game is to be broadcast on 'BZ and will of course give them a giant lead-in. I can't vouch 100% for this, but I've never said "It WILL happen on THIS date", so I hope not to get any more grief. Frankly, the fact that it is actually happening is good enough for me; I don't much care about when it happens as long as it does.

The reference to WBZ-TV is already in effect. New graphics won't debut for another few weeks.

Well that's not news, they've been calling themselves WBZ-TV for a few weeks now...

Well, the news is this... as they're pouring money into this rebranding initiative, they're also laying off personnel. 10 news producers, writers and editors got canned today. I guess the name brand is more important than their news product. Another wave of layoffs is expected shortly and will involve some of the on-air perople and freelancers.

I am very sorry to hear this, although Ed did hint that something like that might happen.
They aren't doing well, so I guess that is to be expected. Hopefully if ratings go up then can start hiring people again? I think that's the tough thing about the TV News business right now, as stations cut costs. In the thread below about WFSB, there's talk about how some stations are trying to automate their live news production (not that it's going well, from what I hear).
