I just found this on Radio-Info's main page. Evidently this person didn't think they would get caught.
This person had ties to a Tampa sports station claimed to have multiple people in her/his household and filled out a diary for all of these "people". All saying that they listened to the same sports station every second of every day. Did he/she not think they would get caught or what?
The Tampa boards are all over this story. But I couldn't help but to imagine the kind of mess this would make in a city the size of Lubbock.
The story from Radio_Info.
New Phase I Trends will be out tomorrow morning at 10am – this time without the input from those seven diaries, which will impact mostly one station. Arbitron says “audience estimates for [CBS Radio’s all-sports] WQYK-AM (1010) may be substantially affected.” As usual, Arbitron doesn’t identify the persons involved or give details about the circumstances. Just that the diaries are from a media-affiliated household that should not have been in the sample. The ratings service is also not pointing the finger of blame at the station itself. WQYK had not “made the book” in several previous quarters – but it suddenly jumped into the Phase I Trends for Spring with a 1.0 share, total week 12+ AQH. The Tampa board’s got its own theories
