Anyone else see this?

I just found this on Radio-Info's main page. Evidently this person didn't think they would get caught.
This person had ties to a Tampa sports station claimed to have multiple people in her/his household and filled out a diary for all of these "people". All saying that they listened to the same sports station every second of every day. Did he/she not think they would get caught or what?

The Tampa boards are all over this story. But I couldn't help but to imagine the kind of mess this would make in a city the size of Lubbock.

The story from Radio_Info.
New Phase I Trends will be out tomorrow morning at 10am – this time without the input from those seven diaries, which will impact mostly one station. Arbitron says “audience estimates for [CBS Radio’s all-sports] WQYK-AM (1010) may be substantially affected.” As usual, Arbitron doesn’t identify the persons involved or give details about the circumstances. Just that the diaries are from a media-affiliated household that should not have been in the sample. The ratings service is also not pointing the finger of blame at the station itself. WQYK had not “made the book” in several previous quarters – but it suddenly jumped into the Phase I Trends for Spring with a 1.0 share, total week 12+ AQH. The Tampa board’s got its own theories

Shhhhh....
Arbi*** is a taboo. It is best not to speak of that word!
We should instead refer to it as "It who shall not be named"

We don't speak of this word...

LOL

My question is... well, actually, did I read right that it was 7 diaries? If that's correct... are they saying that 7 diaries can make that big of a difference in the ratings? Did Arbitron only get 20 diaries back for the market? Those 7 diaries just seem to have a whole lot of power within that market.

thanks to 'ACORN" Mickey Mouse and alot of dead people registered to Vote last November, and Obama won. So, is it that hard to imagine this crap goes on with Arbitron diary keepers? unlike elections, there is more than one book.

I would find it extremely hard to believe that anyone truly fills out Arbitron diaries correctly and honestly. It does amaze me that radio continues to use such an archaic system... yet it does. One would think that the industry would demand a better and more reliable measuring stick.

However, here's something that I was thinking about... you hear allot about the FAIRNESS DOCTRINE on talk radio etc... however... I would like to know how radio is different from TV? When it comes to the radio... you hear how the airwaves belong to the people and that's why there should be a multitude of voices, opinions etc... Why isn't the same thing said about TV? Just curious. Don't the TV airwaves also belong to the people? I am not saying there needs to be a FAIRNESS DOCTRINE. Even though I do believe that local communities are not being served by their local radio broadcasters... it doesn't have anything to do with different political views not being represented. I mean it doesn't take a brain surgeon to know that liberal radio isn't popular and is not a product that is profitable. The only reason the FAIRNESS DOCTRINE is ever brought up is because of the DEM party. It's just that... I don't feel that radio companies should be forced to carry something that is not profitable but at the same time they should have to serve their local communities. Yeah, I know... you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Just curious what others might think regarding this issue or issues...
