Anyone Know What's On 87.9

are there any LPFM's in Northeast Ohio? if not have there ever been?

No, and no, I believe.

There are LPFMs elsewhere in Ohio, including the 102.1 and 98.3 translator in Columbus, the oldies duo in Dayton, in Marion, Logan, etc. But none anywhere near NE Ohio as far as I know.

The closest one to that area is WNHS-LP (105.7) at Newcomerstown High School. There's also one in Loudonville, WZLP-LP at 95.7.

I'd forgotten about the Loudonville LPFM, and didn't know about Newcomerstown.

I'm still pretty sure there are no LPFMs north of, say, U.S. 30...

I read a few years ago of a LPFM permit for Magnolia, Ohio from Sandy Valley Baptist Temple for 106.7, but that never got off the ground..(still south of US 30, but in Stark/Carroll County..The middle of Magnolia is on the Stark/Carroll County line.

I may have been quite wrong re: the owner stating that Berea 91.9 was an LPFM...it was a while ago. Sorry about that. Trying to remember how he classified the station. I think he said it was a "micropower broadcaster" or something, and cited supposed FCC language as to why the station was within the permitted legal power. I certainly never heard of the station aside from my stumbling upon it (and the owner replying to my post on the old Ohio message board).

In Tremont tonight and the station comes in loud and clear.I was told that a few nearby businesses have the station on.Still no idea of who is running this operation but I don't think they're aware how many people in the Cleveland radio scene have the FCC on speed dial.

A few days ago, I was able to pick up said pirate as far west as the I-90 bridge over the Rocky River. Fairly scratchy, but mostly audible. No sign of any IDs of any sort, which was also a dead giveaway.

I wonder how far south this 87.9 pirate gets. One would assume at some point, they'd have trouble with WZIP/first adjacent.
I can get the station (with static) on my car radio in Garfield Heights. They disappear completely around Solon.

Was in Little Italy again this week - 87.9 was staticy but audible there this week. It comes in like a local once you drive up the hill to Cle Hts on Overlook.

Before the Painsville station signed on at 88.3, I was able to listen to WBWC on my car radio while driving home from Beachwood to Parma. Now, due to the interference from the Spanish station, I don't get WBWC on my car radio until I am into Parma. Around Broadview & Pleasant Valley Rd.is where they finally become listenable. I'm not a radio buff, but it seems that since WBWC was on the air first, the Painsville station should have to protect the WBWC signal rather than vice-versa. Maybe the engineers at WBWC can tweak the signal a bit.

Still Spanish music on 87.9 here in West Park on my car radio. They'll prolly be there till/if we get the Franken FM/TV station on 87.75 (?), they'll prolly null each other out, LOL.

I used to hear spotty reception of the 87.9 pirate in Parma, but now that our new "Franken FM" is testing 87.9 is no longer audible.

A few weeks ago I found a Spanish language website that may be the "network" that is being carried on 87.9.

Has anyone figured out where the 87.9 signal originates? Are they still on now that WLFM is testing?

I was getting the 87.9 pirate today in Garfield Hts. as well as at home off Puritas, but it's being stepped on pretty bad with the new Franken FM, but can still hear it in there. I assume the pirate is on the near west side in the Hispanic area. I found their site at one time and seemed part of a larger network, and I even emailed them warning them that the Franken FM will be lighting up soon and may be interference issues, can't find the sent email, but I never got a reply.

I searched my history and found the pirate's website:

87.9 is now being stepped on pretty badly by the Franken FM on 87.7, even in parts of their near West side "service area".

I am sure that the owners of WLFM (licensed Channel 6/87.7) will probably sic the FCC on them, now that 87.9 is interfering with a legit station.

Let's hope the operators of 87.9 don't choose another frequency carelessly, like the dumb pirate in the Tremont area that chose 89.9 and had WKSU on their tail in about 5 minutes!

I was on the roof of a three story parking garage in Cleveland Heights today (where I have been able to get the 87.9 pirate at full strength on my car radio consistently since I've known of it) and there was not even a trace of it today at 5PM. Just static. Would think I'd at least hear signals clashing, based on how strong the signal was at that location in the past.
