Anyone remember former WDJX Morning guy, "Shotgun Stevens"?

It's been at least 20 years ago since he left Louisville, and was wondering if anyone remembers former morning guy, "Shotgun Stevens" who did mornings at WDJX back in 1986.

He also did nights at WOKI in Knoxville, Tennessee from 1984 to 1986 before he came to Louisville. He was a wild man on the air I remember.

If you do a search on the East Tennessee Board for "Shotgun Stevens" you'll find a few post about his time at WOKI.

Yeah, as you mentioned we've been discussing Shotgun on the East Tennessee Board. Just wanted to see if anyone up in the Louisville area still might remember hearing him on WDJX back in 1986.

Shotgun now goes by the On Air Name, "Doc Holliday". You can also catch some of the latest news about him on the Orlando Board under "K92 Mornings".

I remember him doing mornings shortly after the christmas carol stunt in summer of 1985 from magic 100 to 99.7 djx.I also remember along with him in mornings you had davo the sperm whale overnights.

Whoops! I answered the question without reading the user name.

You must have been talking about a stunt he pulled back in the Summer of 1986. He was still in Knoxville back in the Summer of 1985.

I remember back in January of 1986 which was just a couple of weeks before he left WOKI in Knoxville, he supposedly locked himself in the studio around 11pm and played the same song over and over again 35 times in a row until station management showed up and broke the door down, and threw him out.

He wasn't on the air for a few days after that, and then he came back for a week, and then he was gone for good.

Many people here in Knoxville thinks that Shotgun was fired from WOKI for playing that song 35 times in a row, however it was only a publicity stunt that was planned by the whole station. He left here on his own after he got the job at DJX. I believe the week that he was off the air was the same week that he was interviewing for the morning job at WDJX up there.

I remember he wasn't at WDJX for very long. He was there for only a year I believe.

That's alright. No big deal. :)

I worked with him @ DJX. He was actually the 2nd morning guy on DJX, or 3rd if you count me as I filled in am drive the first several weeks the station was on, I forget the first dude's name, didn't last long. I could tell a couple of stories, but...aside from Dave-O their was a lady doing news that was also a part of the show, I can't recall her name either. I'm glad to hear all these years later he's alive and doing well. Brought back some really good memories, I had such a great time with that station. Here's some trivia...know the first song we played on DJX the morning we launched @ 6am? Be caller 9...

I talk to him pretty much on a regular basis via email mostly. Yeah, he's doing quiet well these days.

After he left DJX he ended up at a station in Allentown, Pennsylvania. They made him change his On Air Name to "TJ Grey". I guess station management felt that the name, "Shotgun" wasn't the best name to use in a Northern town like Allentown. He really hated that station up in Allentown. I don't even think he was there for a year.

After he left Allentown, PA he ended up at Z-104 in Norfolk Virginia in September of 1987. I believe that is the station where he first started using his current On Air Name, "Doc Holliday". I lost touch with him in 1989, and didn't get back in touch with him until just a couple of years ago in 2005. I have been back in touch with him pretty much on a regular basis now.

He ended up down in Orlando doing mornings at "XL-106.7" in 1990. He was at that station for at least 17 years, up until March of this year.

After he left "XL-106.7" back in March he had to sit out for 6 months due to the "No compete" clause that was in his contract with Clear Channel. He finally hit the airwaves again down in Orlando at "K92" back on September 10th of this year.

He seems to like it quiet a bit down in Orlando. He has become a pretty popular name in that market over the past 17 years. He loves the weather, and has no intentions of ever leaving Florida from what I can tell.

He also does the play by play calls for "The Orlando Predators" down there. He's also had quiet a few other accomplishments here in the past 17 years. His voice has been used on Nickelodeon also.

I'm happy for him.

Wasn't he the guy that did the short syndicated promo/drop-in? I used to listen to this one E'town station where he would pop in to give a bit of trivia and play a song depending on a specific theme.
