AOR/Progressive Radio in Bako. 1970s

In 1977, Buck purchased the 550Khz frequency and took KUZZ-AM full time (I believe).
I thought Buck bought AM 970 for KUZZ in the 1970's? 550 was Top 40 KAFY. Then I think KAFY switched to Country in 1980 or 1981. Then Buck bought 550 and moved KUZZ there. The call letters of KAFY went to 970 but the format became Spanish.

You are correct, sir. The purchase of AM 970 coincided with the creation of KKXX as an AOR station in early 1977. The purchase of AM 550 and spinoff of 970 took place in early 1986. The KUZZ AM/FM simulcast on AM 550/FM 107.9 began in 1988 when Buck shut down KKXX (by then a straight-out rhythmic CHR), and the call letters were then picked up by another operator, Salem IIRC.

Looking for early AOR..this thread came up, so that's the reason for the resurrection. When we were operating KZFM in '69..FM penetration was a real problem..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7Dryk_tUuA

After 6 months..we gave them away.. and within another book we'd gone from #8 to #2. Sorry for the market switch..however, as mentioned, this was the topic I was looking for. Perhaps you found it interesting..even relative to your situation at the time. Best To All, Johnny Marks
