Are the extra HD channels necessarily better ?

When, I listen to WBBM Chicago from Maryland every night, they repeatedly inform listeners that they are broadcasting in HD - I have to laugh, because IBOC is no authorized for nighttime AM, and listeners get the idea that they are already listening in HD (if, they even know what that means), with their analog receivers ! Good thing - I'de rather be listening to pure, sweet analog, than low-bitrate streams, with digital artifacts ! :D

How, did I guess, that my post would get such a reaction out of you ?

It's simple. I responded TO a line in a post that was utter nonsense, WITH a line that was utter nonsense. ;D

I am only 20 minutes from Ibiquity's headquarters in Columbia, Md.

Be careful. You COULD become cross cantaminated with "HD Disease". :)

Seriously, though, I would be interested in an unbiased account of how HD really works in that type of environment. Here in the Corpus Christi TX Boonies, there are no issues. NONE. However, as a long time FM DXer who lived in the western Philadelphia 'burbs, I can see how the whole "B" and "B1" thing might be a little different up there.

However, you're within range of a

####load of HD FM's . Down here we only have one. I'd be interested in an intelligent feedback about specific situations in your area. Not having an HD radio, I would suspect you can't address this. I'd love it if one of your neighbors could.

In a previous post "I" suggested that pets should be arrested because they were with Ibiquity executives. I would like to respond to that assertion.

Hey, Clouseau.... "STOP DRINKING THE BONG WATER AND STEP AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD." I guess I'm serioualy making a fool of myself.

In my opinion... "we just be having fun..."

If your from Balamer, marylan, Howard is pronounced Herrod. As in Herrod St. Pass the Old Bay Seasoning, hon.

1) The secondary signals don't go very far. The NPR studies show that the secondaries are usable only to approximately the 80-dBu contour, while the primaries easily make it to the 60.

Actually, all of the HD-1, HD-2 and HD-3 channels are encoded together as a conglomerate bitstream. They all go the same distance. However, the useful range of HD-1 seems greater because with the HD-1 channel, dropouts are supplemented by the analog channel. With HD-2 and HD-3, the receiver has no analog counterpart to fall back on when there is a dropout.

I thought there was a higher data redundancy in the hd-1 bitstream...?
