Are the FRESH stations AC?

There is some discussion on the Chicago board about WCFS 105.9 in Chicago flipping this year. I bet it will happen. Numbers are not good. Fresh in DC isn't doing great either, but I would think it's acceptable.

Funny, because WCFS is the most AC'ish of the big 3 Fresh stations (excluding KEZK, which has been and still is an AC that just using the Fresh name).
 
I had to run the air conditioning. So I was stuck with a Columbia SC station I couldn't even pick up. Instead I was on a Myrtle Beach SC station and heard "Second Chance" by Shinedown. Now they've been saying the station is hot AC, but the thing is that market has no mainstream aC.

Ill say the station you had on was Star 92.1 WMYB :D

I can't prove it, but I guarantee you Rock 92 wasn't playing Shinedown. I did hear classic rock at one point. And Carolina 92.1 never showed up.
 
The only "Second Chance" a mainstream AC should be playing is by .38 Special.

I forget where the discussion on this was, but I thought I heard Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" on K-104.7 in Charlotte, NC at night.

It turned out the lyrics were "Just Dance" repeated over and over and maybe a few other words.

That one day, in summer 2009, me and my mom were going to Oklahoma City for the dentist to check up with my braces and adjust it. As we tuned into AC Magic 104.1 KMGL - Oklahoma City and after listening to it a while, it started playing "Second Chance" by Shinedown. I was surprised that this station has already started playing this song. I remember Hot AC KDMX Mix 102.9 - Dallas start playing it early 2009. When I was back in Dallas a week later I heard it on KVIL 103.7 Lite FM - Dallas as well, but I don't remember, I might have heard it off the Delilah's show. Maybe KVIL added this song to it's regular playlist and then they didn't kept it long and eventually dropped it. KMGL is still playing it like crazy, but I'm not sure if they dropped it and added it again, but I see it in their playlist once in a while till now. It's like they never stopped playing it, but they play it once in a while, not often though. I like "Second Chance" though, but I believe that's way too aggressive for AC with you guys.
 
It's surprised me when "Misery" by Maroon 5 became a hit on KMGL, too aggressive huh? Lol, that's the only thing they play besides Maroon 5's "This Love". They aren't very big on Maroon 5.

KMGL is still my favorite station, it's still a pretty good station, plenty of soft hits, with a little aggressive 80's hits and today's hits. I wished I still live in OKC to listen to it, KVIL gets boring lol.
 
I guess it was a different market. Besides, the AC format has never done as well in Chicago as it does in NYC, look at WLIT in Chicago then WLTW in NYC.

I guess WIAD in DC is now the most endangered Fresh FM, but the numbers aren't as terrible.
 
That is true also that Chicago isn't really friendly to AC in the ratings other then during Christmas.

Once Fresh is changed in Chicago, CBS Radio will have 3 Fresh stations, NY, St. Louis, D.C. With 94.7 Fresh FM in Washington D.C. sounding more Hot AC compared to NY and St Louis.

Don't forget to add Hubbard Broadcasting's AC WILV to the list, it's not doing well either.

CBS Radio Lite FM's are also doing really bad beside their Fresh FM's through the past decade. KVIL/Dallas and WLTE/Minneapolis-St. Paul have really poor numbers. Their only successful AC that I know is WEAT/West Palm Beach (Sunny 104.3) which is similar to their Lite FM's, not their Fresh FM's.
 
IMO, most AC's with the brand Lite, Lite FM, Sunny, Sunny FM, Magic, and Magic FM would carry out the similar playlist for the AC format by CBS Radio, ClearChannel, Citadel, Entercom, and even Pittsburgh-based Renda Broadcasting. The branding doesn't shape the station playlist much rather than who's the owner of the station, the station itself, the programmers/directors of the station, and/or the area/demo the station served.

IMO, CBS Fresh and Fresh FM is also another brand, but instead, it seems to carry out a newer or unique form of the AC format leaning towards the Hot AC/Top 40 format.

A very successful CBS AC is WRCH/Hartford.
 
I have been mentioning CBS station WKQC Charlotte, NC in various topics. I'm not sure where to say this, but anyway ...

At one time during the day they were truly "Lite", compared to the Clear Channel station Lite 102.9 in the same market, which may or may not have been premium choice but certainly didn't live up to its name.

I'm not sure about the daytime, but they sure sound adventurous at night. For example, "Raise Your Glass" by Pink. The market already has a hot AC which isn't a hot AC (WLNK), and Lite isn't trying, so it's a shame WKQC can't turn down the volume.
