ARE THE MARTIANS INTERFERING WITH EARTHLING AM SIGNALS?

MARTIAN UPDATE....heard a national program taking a call from california...the caller was asking why AM radio signals have gotten so crappy!!!!!!! WHAT IS THE ANSWER? i know there are a lot of geeky engineers out there just waiting to speculate on the problem. come on, what's the real story? apparently the invasion is nationwide......loading up on toilet paper and bottled water and ready to hunker in a bunker with jim quinn......

Also, Martian stations interfere with Earth stations as the Intergalactic Council allows them to operate with unlimited wattage. If you pick up a station with calls beginning with "M", it is from Mars. However there are some Martian stations using R (for Red Planet) that went on the air around 7,000 BC before regulation. "Red Planet" does not mean that Mars is socialist as Red only pertains to the color of the planet. Mars has always believed in a free market economy that is "self regulating". Some economists think they have seen Arthur Laffer's face carved into the surface of Mars. Some believe that Laura Ingraham may have ancestors going back to the time Martians visited Earth.

During the Sixties, Radio Luxembourg produced a highly credible Top 40 station with a very American sound using some staff from the USA. Oddly, they broadcast at very high power (don't know how high) at 1380, a low power frequency in the States. What is kept secret is that it was really a repeater for the most popular station on Mars at the time. On Mars, the higher numbers denoted clear channels. 1230,1240,1400,1450,and 1490 reached well past Mars and showed up in diaries on Uranus. When President Cleveland spent unaccounted time on his boat, he was brokering a future deal with the MCC ( Martian Communication Commission. Not to be confused with the Gay Church) to restrict future Earth radio power.

This noise that is presumably IBOC hash that is degrading the broadcast signals of AM stations in the Pittsburgh market is likely to be occurring in many other areas of the country. It is especially noticeable at night when adjacent out of town channels start to step on local signals.

Is this noise also impacting the expanded AM band? Does it dissipate when you get 30 to 40 miles outside of downtown Pittsburgh or is it still present?

mr. walker...thanks so much for a response concerning the martian invasion. to be honest, considering the state of radio in this country, the aliens can have the frequencies.....now on the serious side....to answer your question, i know nothing about iboc's or side power or band widths or french cuisine. all i know is that AM radio signals have greatly diminished, even within 8 to 10 miles of the city. and it's not my radios!!!!!! i'm not alone, others have said the same thing. please help me. a definitive answer has to be out there somewhere. applying for my universal visa as we speak.
...california

I do know that most AM stations have lowered the top end of their audio chain's frequency response to 5 khz which is equal to the same audio quality found on a standard telephone line. But this does not seem to be the issue at the moment as interference to local signals is the primary culprit.

Do you know how long ago this problem started? Did it happen gradually or suddenly?

Do you have Broadband over Power Lines in your area? I have heard that BPL can significantly damage AM broadcast signals.

I'll keep my phaser on heavy stun when I travel to your area next month just to be safe. :)

IBOC is likely the culprit here. I work for WWNL -- 50,000 Watts daytime, with towers in Hampton Township. I've had callers tell me that they can't hear our signal in the New Kensington area. One person told me that, in West Deer and East Deer, he can't pick up any listenable signal on KDKA, WWNL, WJAS, KQV, or the McKeesport stations.

I live in Beaver County. At night, if I'm traveling to/from the OH or WV borders, I can't get a listenable signal on KDKA. Many have complained that it's the fault of the IBOC from WBZ/Boston. However, I have a hard time even listening to WBZ or WINS/New York at night. WTIC/Hartford seems to come in OK the most often. . . but, then again, not always.

I worrked for what is now WWNL back in the 80s when it was WEEP. That signal has a weird pattern, and I think there's a pretty significant null directly east.

Part of KD's problem is that 1020 is no longer a totally clear channel, I think there's some stuff on 1020 in the south. At one point there was also a blowtorch called "Carribean Christian Radio" on 1020 from the Turks and Caicos islands (studios were somewhere around Daytona Beach). I think they're gone now.

There is also now a sports station in Jacksonville on 1010 (WJXL) which used to be a daytimer but is now 30,000 watts at night. Although it's supposed to be aimed out to sea at night, antything out of that Florida air can do some weird things.

Someone's listening too much to Coast to Coast AM with George Noory, Ian Punnett and the Art Bell reruns.

When we get knocked off the air (and it's always in the middle of the night). As I'm driving out to the transmitter site, I try to listen to Coast To Coast AM. I find it very entertaining. It's almost like a bunch of children sitting around a camp fire trying to scare themselves. Of course, I always stick to the main highways so as not to be abducted by some ETs in a UFO.
