AREA 108/Coyote Country

Re: AREA 108 / Riveria Broadcasting

From a previous post of mine...

"these Area 108 cats havent even been on the strip a week. Let them get settled in. Who knows, maybe the dj you heard IS tired because he just moved here and is sleeping on his new apt floor because the movers still havent gotten him his boxes of stuff. "(Man do I know this biz or what?!)

I also here the studio isn't set for phone calls, but
> they will be getting up to speed soon.

Studios not even set up for phone calls? Are these new studios? Were they in use before before a format flip? I hope this isnt one of those situations where mgmt just says "we are fixing the studios, putting in a new translator, ect..." Can anybody confirm that they have applied to the FCC for the translators on the Stratosphere? Have the applications been accepted?

As far as AAA
> deleivery, they sound like guys trying to feel their way

Nothing wrong with a AAA delivery. Especially in middays, at the office. Just keep the tuneage moving. Keep the fun stuff for am, pm and afternoon drive.

>and mediocre at best equipment.

See, equiptment issues scare me. You are going to take on CC and Xtreme and you have sub par equiptment? Makes no sense. These are things that they should have had ready so staff could hit the ground running. If your not ready to go, dont break out the new goods.

>I hear they are gonna have a good morning show,

Who? Spill the beans!!!

>and looking for killer night talent still.

Hope they don't wait too long. Ads were out a couple weeks ago. Should be well into the interview process by now. New Years Eve would be a good target date for the hiring. Hope the nights are live and they break new talent. Not just recycling some other guy or girl from Las Vegas.

>What will be interesting is to hear what they sound like when a full staff is hired, and they have promotions, marketing etc. It still sounds like a station in building process still to me....

Personally feel they should have had all that together before the launch of the new format.

>They sound like a classic alternative to me with new songs sprinkled in.

Sounds good.

>I will be more interested in what their morning show sounds like than their middays.. these guys sound like they are coming into a station still trying to find its identity.

JJ and his crew sound like a good lot. And looking at what they did in Pheonix they have a nice track record established. Made a few calls about Riveria Broadcasting. Sounds good. Like what they are tring to do and the way they approach things. Best of luck to them.

Area 108's On Channel Booster

Has Area 108 turned on its booster signal yet? I noticed the signal was really good on the strip today. Not choppy or filled with static like it is around the Palms.

Re: AREA 108 / Riveria Broadcasting

as a resident of phoenix this is what i can tell yall about Larry Mac and Dennis Huff

i know larry pretty well, i work at rockaway records in town which he frequents, larry has immense knowledge of music and is very well respected in town. here he had a show called red radio underground which featured indie rock and alternative music. it killed in the books for sunday nights 7-9pm. for something like that to be on KUPD was amazing. larry has always supported local music strongly and a club in town is having a farewell show on the 13th.

KUPD has always been the big red radio who won rock station of the year few years back. always cutting edge. recently.. kinda dull though same STP, nirvana, gnr plus some new (BLEEP) mixed in.

huff was 7-10pm was more into the harder stuff.. was probably KUPD's best dj. been there as long as ive been in town. look for huff to be great in the afternoons...

just my 2 cents
