Arizona's #1 News & Talk Station...Hmmmm

OK, let's see what happened in P1 of the Winter 12+

1) KEZ

2) WTF? ... KFWhyEye (up from F'07)

3) KOHT

4) KOOL & KYOT (tie)

5) KMXP & KNIX (tie)

6) KZZP

7) KMLE

8 KSLX

9) Arizona's #1 #2 News & Talk Station, KT'R (flat from F'07)

10) KQMR/KOMR

Once again the Master Blogger's nose grows longer! ;D ;D ;D

So, how long of a leash does Russ Hill have these days? We know he's a beloved figure at Bonneville, but at what point do they decide a change needs to be made?

Clearly, we need new liners at KT'R! ;D

It's the liners that drive the ratings, right? :-\

FM News/Talk/Sometimes Sports 92.3 KTAR- It just sounds better - Did we mention we are on FM?? - And did we claim to be the #1 News/Talk/Sometimes Sports station on FM??

#3 is KHOT-FM (La Nueva 105.9), not KOHT. Hot 98.3, licenced to Marana, is KOHT, which one cannot receive until southeast of Casa Grande, because of Power 98.3.

So much for keeping us all up to date!

It makes me laugh how badly you people miss Hill's blog. Down to the date he last wrote and even put his quotes on here. Funarious. :D

12+ can be deceiving. How did KFYI do against KTAR 25-54??? If they buried 'em, then KTAR, FM signal/marketing/new lineup in an election year, has a BIG problem.

His blog was fun reading. Especially the part about being all local and not doing syndicated shows that were several hours old.

If you commit to being open to the public, you actually have to follow through.

It makes me laugh how you show up in these threads and invariably 1) put down others who participate with the tired adage "well you must be listening still" or "well you're still reading the blogs... kekekeke". 2) How you spin spin spin spin everything to the point where you don't sound remotely objective and rather make it seem as though you work for TMISU (which you likely do but wouldn't dare ever tell us who you are).

KTAR-FM is a floundering, lost, middle of the road station which can't find it's way because of the poor programming decisions made at the top--probably well above Russ Hill's head. What you must understand is that in this day and age, program directors are generally just puppets for GM's who are puppets for Market/region managers who are puppets to consultants, etc.

KTAR-FM suffers from inconsistentitus. The only cure is to a) Stop changing lineups every few months, b) stop changing positioners every few weeks, c) stop changing the imaging every few weeks, d) end the hypocrisy of "we are giving you local talk" while filling half the day with it. Of course there's the lineup itself which is weak--albeit better than before, but just not good enough to tackle what KFYI is doing. Topic driven hours where you ask listeners questions and want them to regurgitate short answers was very hip in 1982, but falls short of the benchmark for successful talk radio here in the 21st century, the proof is in the ratings.

Exactly right. The A25-54 monthly extrapolation shows KTAR in 5th place, KFYI in 11th! It's only a monthly, but it sure looks like KTAR is doing something right......even though I have a hard time listening to the station these days.

The big story is that ALL of CBS's stations (KOOL, KZON and KMLE) plummeted, while KSLX (4th) and Movin' (6th) scored huge.

The Master Blogger dodged a bullet today.

Spitzer--at last check--is still in the state house, and is
apparently staying away from "ho"tels for the time being. ;D

But what if he had resigned at, say, 9:30am Pacific today?
Ah...breaking news, special reports, TOH and BOH lead story.

And there'd be KT'R at noon running a six-hour old show with
the Beckster wondering throughout "will he resign?"

Well, there's always tomorrow, Russ.

That would have been like KFWHYEYE yesterday when Hannitee threw it live to the Spitzer news statement an hour after it actually went down. But why expect any of the 550hos on this board to point that out? ;)

For the record, I think Hill made a boneheaded move when he put on Beck.

And, KGMX, I'll show mine when you show yours. :-*

Pretty easy to find out who I am--I'm not tied to any station here per se, not on the dole to anyone.

I don't see anything wrong with Glenn Beck per se--although I wouldn't air it on a 6 hour delay, God forbid we can the snoozeblock.

We'll leave the tea leaf reading to the Old Gringo as Nurse Jeff and I know monthly demos are consistenly inconsistent. But what is truly amazing is the overal strength of KFWhyEye compared to KT'R. By all accounts, they should be toast as TMISU have spent beau coup dollars on 92~Three in the past year and a half. KT'R has more local talkers, a larger news staff, an enormous advertising and marketing budget, plus they're on FM. In spite of the advantage KT'R has over it's competitor, KFWhyEye hangs in there and sounds more relevant and entertaining than just about anything KT'R offers. Nurse Jeff keeps reminding me to address the embarassment on between 7 and 10pm, but been there and done that. A tip of the fez to the Dudeboss...you are doing what the Master Blogger dreams about every night!

Are you really calling Bruce Jacobs, Barry Young, and JD Hayworth entertaining? How long has it been since the Nurse checked your hearing?

Yawn.

Yawn.

And Limbaugh and Hannity are relevant?

Pssst. Your lack of credibility is showing.....

Dropping a lot of the immigration talk has made KTAR more interesting to listen to, however,
not enough. The 12+ rating for KTAR dropped from 3.8 to 3.0 when the afternoon news-block from 4pm to 7pm was replaced with Mac Watson, and stayed that way. Watson should be moved to the Beck timeslot and programming should return to the afternoon news-block, which was easier listening for the drive home.
But contracts may prevent such a move for a while.

The Doc 'n Nurse respond...

Yawn.

Is it raining at 5300 N Central where you are? No doubt that yawn was induced by boring talk radio!

Pass some more of that Master Blogger Kool-Aid, we're just not getting your point! And do you really want to get into a discussion about the credibility of Arizona's #1 #2 News & Talk station?

Any other questions?

Notice how Dr. KFYI ignored the post about his station's glaring td screwup? :-\

Shocked.

Completely meaningless. Everyone knows Hannity is on KFWhyEye at 1pm, regardless of Daylight or Standard time. Nurse Jeff and I doubt there's much local interest in covering a slimeball NooYawk politician's news conference live. If eliminating an hour tape delay in the summer is so important, might we suggest you point your AM browser to 9~Sixty as they adjust their lineup according to DST. Please note the significant audience gains KKNT has made as a result of that decision ;) ;)
