Arrakis Nova-10C Console

@oldiesstation: I think I ended up spending $10 a copy for those when I replaced a couple of busted one on my former 1200 series board. Of course, the ridiculous $35 "processing fee' makes any order unappealing.

BTW: Have you priced out those VCA chips for each audio channel lately? Are you ready to take out a mortgage if you have to replace them? I had tubes of them I bought thanks to my local jobber as Arrakis wanted $25 a copy some years ago ... and each stereo channel uses two of them sucka's.

I had an ARC-10 that I bought 1 month after the original owner purchased it and the damaged gray end cap that was promised free to the original owner I was charged $30 - and all it looked like was ground and compressed paper pulp! Mind you, being told a two month old console no longer had a warranty because I was the second owner didn't sit well with me and I let everybody at Arrakis know this even though it made little difference to them.

I unloaded both my 1200-15 and the ARC-10 and vowed that no facility I would ever get involved with would have an Arrakis product if I had anything to say about it. I also replaced my personal console with a Dynamax. It may not be a fancy digital console but it's functional, reliable and most of all, I totally trust the entity that's now responsible for factory support for this product.

Cut my teeth on Collins AM and FM transmitters and audio consoles many years ago, what dream equipment, Collins built quite a bit of for the US government and I have to believe it carried over to their broadcast stuff. After working with Collins most experiences other than GE, Westinghouse and RCA
were down hill all the way. Never had any experience with Western Electric but they became Continental who also purchased Collins RF made and still makes excellent equipment.
Arrakis, nothing but a nightmare for me, sent a board from one of their audio consoles back for repair and even they could not repair it, not only bad but bizarre design.

I have never met a Arrakashit product I liked. I may not be Will Rogers, but something tells me that if Arrakashit was around when he was and he had to use their junk, he'd found one he didn't like too!

Thank you all for your Arrakis reviews.....I got my mixer back today and working perfectly after over 600 in repairs and labor charges.....Let's hope this is the last time I have to send it out....unfortunately....I have a feeling it won't be after all the "great" reviews it received on this message board......Thank you all again !!! :D

If it breaks again (it will), I have a boat that could use an anchor.

All those consoles are worth is the scrap metal that's in them.

While it may be OK if the thing works out for awhile that money could have gone toward a nice, used but decent, analog console from anybody else but Arrakis.

I see people lofting that crap up on ebay and the potential suckers buyers have no clue that the voltage control chips needed to keep those things running are long gone and out of production! Unless you find some new old stock you will be stuck with a boatanchor.

Friends don't let friends Arrakis!

All joking aside, clean that "baby" up where it looks the best it can and see if someone from a broadcasting school or internet radio station startup wants to "play radio" with it. Take the money you get from it (hopefully it's much more than the repair costs) and go get something more reliable from Audio Arts, Radio Systems, PR&E/Harris, etc. I feel your at a point you might be able to run from this thing without loosing too much more of your investment. Obviously if you can't get your 600 out of it, use it 'till it drops. But if you can get some bread out of it, I would take the plunge to loose that thing quickly so you don't get burned anymore!

I used to call them "Atrocious", back in the day. Bill- I'm happy to see that you're still in the game.

Got a few Dynamax consoles in service. Reliable, superb for broadcasters on a budget, well made, sound great. Supported very well (and Dave Strode is a gem of a person when you need anything). Dave takes superb care of his customers. Why buy elsewhere?
