A's in Windsor, Wingham may close by August

They *did* say London's news will be an expanded newscast to better serve everything from London to Windsor.

Yes, but potentially over cable - noting that they did say viewers wishing to continue to view "A" programming in Windsor (and Wingham) would need to subscribe to a cable/satellite service that carries CFPL.

On that same token, how much Windsor coverage would be featured -- just as sizable as London, or only one or two token stories to appease the CRTC? CFPL covering Windsor by cable / sat only is like Grand Rapids' WOOD carrying Ann Arbor -- it does not make sense.

There *was* a CP24 Ontario week end program when Chum ran the place.
Perhaps the plan is to do a quick headline blurb for Windsor, and remind them to catch CP 24 Ontario for more info. (should they choose to restore that program)

At its simplest, if they simply "un-renew" the Wheatley licence and renew CFPL on its current terms, then they really aren't under any obligation to serve Windsor at all. In which case I think you're right about the extent of their service to Windsor amounting to token stories in the newscasts with a reporter sent down the 401 from London.

I suppose there's some chance (IMHO not a particularly good chance) the CRTC would require them to make some commitments to service in WIndsor in order to renew CFPL if CHWI is "un-renewed".

There are two major differences from the WOOD-in-Ann Arbor concept:

- WDIV (and WILX?) already cover Ann Arbor and carry the same network. With CHWI off, no other A-channel station covers Windsor.
- This is Canada where things work very differently!

Just a tangent here.

My brother lives in Windsor (near the corner of Wyandotte and Jefferson in the Riverside area) and he's never been able to pick up CHWI off air (channel 16 I think). It comes in pretty bad. I think I've read here that CHWI also broadcasts on channel 60 out of Wheatly? If so, he can't get that either (but that's probably normal).

It will be interesting to see how the new owner (SHAW) manages things. (more info here: http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,125814.0.html )
