It looks like those "SNL" fans have forgiven her for last year's fiasco, judging from the positive response she got from tonight's show(October 8th).

Speaking of which, did anyone see...

The promo for SNL that aired Friday/Saturday on NBC?

The host, a cast member of SNL and Ashlee standing there, one of the two asks her "hey weren't you on before", she replies and he then asks "how did it go?".

Ha Ha Ha, that was classic and in good taste for her to laugh at herself like that long after the fact.

Re: Speaking of which, did anyone see...

Was it just me, or did anyone else notice that Ashlee Simpson's singing voice on last night's (October 8th) "Saturday Night Live" was different than her "voice" when she lip-synched last year??

I couldn't even make it through Weekend Update. And the tech flub at the fake add (after the opening monologue) was nifty.

Re: Speaking of which, did anyone see...

Since you've brought it up...

I thought it was actually pretty good. I think this is one of their best seasons in a while, the jokes are topical, and the cast is on target.

Well, sorta.
If you missed it, here were all the flubs I caught last night (and they didn't inovlve you kno who...)

Begining of show:
A director accidently hit the source of a VTR on cue for an upcomming skit in the middle of a parady commercial

Middle of the show:
Several flubs during weekend update.
Horatio Sans who has been filling in for Tina Fey (on maternity leave), stayed calm but clearly has trouble reading the teleprompter.
However, he seemed to help Amy Pohler sevearl time when she lost her concentration reading several news items.
Also, there were several pauses and a few "hiding smirks" as several jokes bombed.
(Judging by her body language, there's no question that this week's Weekend Update was dissasterous, and the effects of the absence of Tina Fey in the skit are becomming obvious)

Towards the end of the show:
In a skit where the chacters kept dying, Rachel Dratch, who was supposed to be playing a dead person accidently got up and turned her head in a coffin (and yes, the audience did notice it).

The good news is, during all the mistakes, the cast did their best to follow Loren Michaels edict to not adlib and to just chug along.

Oh good. I wasn't the only one who noticed that. :)

A big chunk of Weekend Update was wiped out on WNBC, via Cablevision in Rockland County, by a badly-formatted EAS message that appeared to be missing its EOM (end of message) tag. Cablevision - at least here where I'm parked for the week - doesn't handle EAS well. There are several channels that don't get knocked out (including WNYW and News 12), and the EAS audio doesn't make it through, just loud static over the video message. Doesn't sound like I missed anything, though. <P ID="signature">______________

Insight Rockford doesn't do very well with EAS tests either... I've seen their system (force tune on digital, blank out with message / audio on all channels for non-digital sets) run the "A Civil Authority has issued a RMT for all of IL..." until the end time of the test since it never got the EOM to the box. Actually come to think of it, I think I cheked and the LP1 never issued the EOM since I don't recall seeing it on our print-out.

Are you sure that sound wasn't the Ashlee Simpson segment?

Our cable system here gives you a blue screen of death and there used to be audio on it but there hasnt been in months.

When it was first put in, it was relaying all NWS warnings too, so when the local broadcasters had live dopplers and important information on the air, the cable viewers were watching a blue screen with a robot voice.

Thank god that stopped.

For what it's worth...they're operating from a brand-new hi-def control room for 8H this season, so perhaps these are teething pains. (I was in that room today. It's pretty neat!)

The new Sony switcher they're using does HD and SD simultaneously. And what's neat is, they have the same switcher in place in 6B (where WNBC's news originates), so when WNBC gets HD cameras and field gear, they're ready to roll. <P ID="signature">______________
