Asterisk is selling Gainesville/Ocala cluster to JVC Broadcasting

Thanks, Tibbs--I aim to please. And, you're right, of course--nobody wants to exceed the $5 promotional limit.

Parttimer, students do count, but often not in the way you might think. For one thing, a university with say, 50,000 students might provide on-campus housing for 15,000 of them--meaning that the majority of students actually live in the community with everyone else, and are surveyed like everyone else.

On the other hand, most students are way too busy trying to get drunk or trying to get laid--to mess with a damn radio survey.

Persons 18-24--and especially Men 18-24--are the least likely to participate in either Arbitron or Nielsen surveys. But not because of any flaw in the research. "Screw this! Grab me another Bud!"

I base my conclusions on towns like State College, PA and Morgantown, WV where the ratings show no evidence of 30,000 young people. The numbers look just like any other market of similar size.

I had posted this about a week ago and it vanished same as many others, so hopefully the metaphoric bugs have been worked out of the system and we won't have to worry about any additional message losses. This was in regards to WTRS simulcasting on WYGC, and the Party beating Kiss and / or Magic.

Neither station has to beat its competitor in order to be successful. If you will take a look at Wind FM, it has a signal in Levy County in addition to having a second and third signal in Alachua and Marion Counties, respectively. Ocala Broadcasting has no interest in attracting ad dollars from Levy County. However, the added Levy County signal is enough that it raises the bar for Wind FM as a whole that has resulted in higher overall MSA/TSA rating points which has translated to additional ad dollars from the metro in addition to attracting national agency buys. This, I believe, is the general concept behind the WTRS/WYGC simulcast.

As for WBXY, I agree that such a narrowcast format may not beat WYKS or WTMG; however, it will fill the gap taking just enough ratings points away from Kiss and Magic to make somewhat of an impact while improving 99.5's overall ratings and billing from what it has previously produced as an underperforming second and third tier news-talk station.

It appears 99.5 is targetting Magic's listeners more than it is going after Kiss. Regardless of the final outcome, it will be very interesting to see how this plays out and how the overall radio landscape may be different a year from now.
