"Atlanta's Party Station" is back!!!

...Well, it certainly looks like everything is pretty much done now. The Friday night mix has been "fixed" on WWVA, and is now "chr rhythmic appropriate". Then, October 4th, things will be sounding more official and great, so.. what more is there really to say? The rhythmic and top 40 sound has pretty much been fixed and... that's good enough for me. You all are on your own with your B98.5 talks or hopes on getting a "more normal" soft ac because I'm taking a break to relax and be thankful for whats happened already so far in this major city - in the past three to four weeks alone. Just keep in mind B98.5 jokes here are not going to get anyone anywhere because they will all come across as just that - jokes. Martin Luther King, NASA, and many other people who seriously and successfully encouraged change or new ideas (in all areas of life) did not do so by making / writing jokes about the situation, especially when the situation was one where most people were willing to just sit back and accept things as they were rather than try new ideas because the old ways were familiar, convenient, and worked.

Anyway, I've heard some talk in regards to The Groove's signal which somewhat concerns me, but.... I'm assuming that I will (or should be) able to pick it up in Fayetteville. Maybe someone will inform me with accuracy on how good or bad the WWVA signal is in various parts of town BEFORE I get there.. *Once again, great job with the CURRENT moves finally and recently made on Groove, Q, and Star. Someone just needs to update the WWVA stream site and the music that is played to block out the Atlanta commercials since it still reflects the AC style.

HAVE A GROOVY DAY.

In Fayetteville you'll get GROOVE on 96.7

I should mention once again I'm loving the current Groove sound and I have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING bad to say about WWVA, all around. The format sounds solid and proper for Atl. region Rhythmic and seems to be improving as time moves on! ;) But this is just my opinion on WWVA - GROOVE.

Oh, and

Memories - Kid Cudi..... I'm not too surprised at ..... Groove not being on it yet. Maybe "Hey baby" by Pitbull and T-Pain will be added first..

Pitbull - "hey baby", ADDED.

Anyway, enjoy the rest of the week, everyone.

Just listening to the radio and heard GROOVE is doing one of those CC nationwide money give away. It's promoted with Usher giving away like $1,000 every hour. I know CC has always done this with the Urban stations, but in reality I think no money is really given away.

Looks like Mami Chula has a commercial free hour mix during the weekdays. So far pretty good! I like how they give her more freedom in the song choices. I'm having more hope in this station - time will tell!

I saw the above quote a few weeks ago and for some reason it stuck in my mind... Never really looked into researching exactly when the mix was, but after randomly going to yes dot com (and once again noticing wwva in the "popular channels" section of yes dot com), I clicked on WWVA and noticed something about the 8 o clock hour. Based on the style of songs played between 8 and 9pm, I'm guessing that this mix must be at 8 o clock, or somewhere between 8 and 9pm.

Nice to see that more weekday mixshows are actually being considered/added to the weekday line-up.

That's why your radio has the means to tune different stations.

I read some research once that said the top two places where people listen to the radio are in their cars and at their workplace. Now I can't speak for anyone else, but in my car I have absolute control over the radio tuning buttons, as long as my wife isn't in the car with me. When I'm at work, there's a complex set of protocols over who gets to pick the station and when. At work, depending on who gets to pick the station, the existence of tuning buttons or a dial means nothing. You're often stuck listening to something you absolutely don't want to listen to, and there's nothing you can do about it.

IMO the stations sounds better than our previous Rhythmic station. Too bad 105.7 and 96.7 together still doesn't cover ATL properly, but kudos to them for bringing some hypeness to the air. Heard some new music on GROOVE that I haven't heard on V, HOT nor Q.

Re: THE MUSIC

Note: If you have no idea what dirty south, booty bass, or crunk music is, then this will probably be of no interest to you. Read further if you wish.

Question:
Did Hot or V ever play "get it shawty" by Lloyd or "get up" by Ciara?
And also, does hot even play anything uptempo anymore in any of their mixes other than Usher?
___________________________________________________________________________________

I do have to admit I still have some love for the Atlanta dirty south and crunk music sound, which is one thing Hot 107.9 still represents today. I'm just surprised at how the baltimore club music sound never really took off in the dirty south.

I see that V103 has already started playing Ciara's "Gimmie Dat", which today's younger generation wont know is really just a modernized version of what booty bass was "back in the day". I surely hope that record becomes big despite the fact that it's not the best modern electro-bass record out there. We "need" more producers making bass tracks that are designed to cross over and gain acceptance into urban radio play. It's about time that modern crunk music sort of touches back on its roots and bring back a modernized, new generation version of that urban bass sound (remember "shawty swing my way"?).

At least, if nothing else, Groove is here to represent ALL those sounds to some extent, IN ADDITION TO the latin rhythm and electro hip hop/house sound. Lastly, that new Eminem track is going to force a lot of radio dj's to start using the Haddaway "what is love" sample. Of course, probably not on urban, but in rhythmic and top 40 mixes.

Atlanta's Urban Hip-Hop music has gone through many different sounds. From Bass to Crunk to Snap to Futuristic. HOT 107.9 plays whats current in ATL which is Travis Porter, Waka Flocka and Gucci Mane. As far as HOT's mixshows most of it is just current Hip-hop and R&B. They got rid of the old school 12noon 20 minute workout mix a couple of years ago. V103 is the same except they mix old school at 12pm after HOT got rid of it. The best bet to hear Baltimore house music and old ATL bass is during MAGIC 107.5's live club broadacst on Fridays, Saturday and Sunday nights. DJ King Arthur, DJ Feel X, and DJ Nabs play it all! BTW, HOT and V both played Llyod's "Get It Shawty"

4. I will have to bet that this Groove station will (or eventually will end up having to) keep the back in the day hits portion of their playlist very limited, or exclude many things a traditional Rhythmic AC would normally play ....

-> OH! And I just saw a live shot of songs they are playing at the moment! I love what they are doing!! BUT!!! Now I have all the proof I need to know that it will change over time. I can guarantee that all those songs are not going to all be played together forever. It will eventually either go more rhythmic, or more adult ac-ish. It surely will not last exactly as is! Wait until the pd gets in and "corrects" the playlist.

Flash forward a year later from the above quote, and Groove is now actually not just good, but one of my favorite sounding rhythmics (and I'm sure this is not even the peak of as good as it's going to get, yet). It's pretty much the only place here where you're going to get fresh & sometimes exclusive new rhythmic hip hop AND rhythmic pop/dance material, and on top of this, the station itself is also unique to and sounding perfect for its market- while still sounding traditional, upbeat, and fun all week. Many people talk bad about ClearChannel, but like someone else once said elsewhere on these boards, "talk bad about them, but you've gotta admit they know how to produce some great sounding stations". Atlanta surely does have an unique urban style flavor (that I see even crosses over into Alabama rhythmic and urbans). Now that David Guetta ft Kid Cudi "memories" has officially gained east coast play, hopefully Groove will be the one to add it, along with the new Chris Brown "yeah 3x" that everyone is obviously or eventually going to play. I do question, though, if Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina - "Stereo Love" will get play because it's more of a top 40 hit than rhythmic material- at least as of right now.

On another note, never even knew Majik 107.5 had a SUNDAY night mixshow, along with Fri & Sat. Groove also plays some Bmore and current electro-hip hop and rhythm club stuff during weekday mixshow(s).

I miss the ATL bass. First time i was in the A in 99 i never wanted to leave. All the Big Oomp on Hot 97-5 along with so much more, I knew it was home to me. I shoulda never left! ATL bass was even better than Miami bass.

Now all i can say today is WHTA.. "you scared" like raheem

Some Real Old School Booty Bass

More Rhythm & Bass

I used to love that Raheem track, by the way.

Yall don't remember when we had "BOOTY SHAKE 88" every Saturday night at 11pm on WRAS 88.5? Neek (now MD/Afternoons at WHXT/HOT 103.9) was the host and they mixed evey ATL bass artist you can think of. HOT 97.5 was known for bass music during the "Hot Carphone Check-In" at 5pm with Jerry Smokin B and DJ Jelly. Can't forget the local video shows "American Music Makers" and "Planet Rock Weekend Jam" with Arnell Starr on UPN 69. ;D

I still think this station has a lot more potential. I wouldn't hold your breath to hear songs like David Guetta/Kid Cudi - Memories, Bruno Mars - Grenade and Liquor Store Blues, Chris Brown - Yeah 3X, Mike Posner - Please Don't Go, etc. These songs are played on other rhythmic stations around the country, but The Groove continues to rotate BoB - Airplanes, Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are, Nelly - Just A Dream, etc constantly as if they are new. It's annoying and it shows in their ratings. It's surprising for a Clear Channel CHR/Rhythmic station. I had much higher hopes for The Groove.

Oh, and I did see a job ad for a new program director for The Groove. Maybe the next person will do a better job with the playlist and can increase the stations popularity.

I believe the ratings being indicated here are still reflecting the fact that they are still pretty new with their current format. It will take time for the current format to fully reflect in overall ratings. Some may disagree, but in comparison to WLLD and the rhythmic they have in Alabama, I'd say WWVA is outstanding. I'm beginning to think no David Guetta "memories", but I'm sure eventually Bruno Mars "grenade" and Chris Brown "yeah 3x" will more than likely be picked up. I cannot see why they wouldn't.. They've used "please don't go" in the mix already.

As far as the station PD, I have no opinions or knowledge on he or she, but the Asst MD/PD is perfect for his job (in my opinion).

I do remember the booty mix on 88.5 and Hot 19, 97.5 with the Hot Carphone Check-In with Jerry Smomomomokin B. I also remember V103 played booty bass hits as well, but never at the level Hot 97.5 did. Now, why does it seem like you can catch more bass on V103 than Hot 97? And why isn't today's electro hip-hop & urban club dance blowing up on urban the same way booty music did in urban mixshows? I guess I don't fully understand the evolution process of urban format music and at what point in time this evolution caused certain styles of urban sounds to become "strictly rhythmic material" and "unacceptable" to the urban format..

What I do find funny is that no one in ATL is playing "toot it & boot it" by YG.
Not that I'm complaining or anything!! Just an observation.

>> Not sure how far GROOVE will go in ratings because with 2 signals, the station isn't covering the metro like 95.5 did, especially Eastside.

>> Remember, WHTA is the stomping ground for new Atlanta Hip-Hop artist. HOT 107.9 (97.5 then) has managed to break new music along with setting the trends of the local music sound. You'll here a local artist on HOT first and 2 months later the song gets nationwide attention and video play.

>>The reason you'll probaly hear more bass music now on V103 is due to the fact that HOT 107.9 dumped it's old school "20 Minute Workout" at noon. V103 does an old school mix at noon with DJ Jaycee which is probaly the times you hear older music. (HOT 107.9 leaves the old school to sister MAJIC 107.5 which does play older bass music in it's weekend mixes). BTW, the only time I heard "Toot It and Boot It" here was Saturday during V103's "5 O'clock Block Party" with DJ Tay Rock.

It's funny you mention The Groove signal because I was just coming to say that hopefully with all the tower signal switching rumors going around, hopefully Groove will be placed on one full strength signal. I don't fully understand all the decisions made behind the scene and why Groove has been placed on a signal that, .. based on what quite a few people have been saying, is "faulty". Didn't Hot 107.9 first start off on a poorer signal before they were "moved" to 107.9? I should know better by now, but I'm keeping my hopes up that if The Groove signal is really that bad, then some flip ups across the dial will make room for Groove to be on a "full power" signal like they deserve to be rather than on two signals that have been rumored to do nothing much for Atlanta metro area.

I do find it interesting that they decided to re-add Katy Perry's "teenage dream". Hopefully the new Black Eyed Peas is in store along with the new Chris Brown, Enrique Iglesias ft Ludacris, and Bruno Mars at some point. The newer Nikki Minaj has already been added.
