Atlantic Broadcasting/NJ Stations SOLD! Winner To Be Announced Today (5.5.11)

I don't see anything happening with the Millennium stations. For anyone who thinks major changes are coming, point to another market where Townsquare came in and immediately overhauled the formats. That's generally not what they do.

You might see some budget cuts, but the Millennium stations are doing well and won't see significant changes. Sojo doesn't burn up the 12+ ratings, but they're hitting that 25-44 female sweet spot advertisers love.

The former Atlantic stations are obviously a different story...

Adding 90's music to the Shark's pond?

I would. 90's work by core artists definitely needs to be added, and a lot of stuff that was near the top of the AOR charts by lesser artists, too.

Rock needs the widest, broadest playlist possible with several different levels of rotation. The problem with WMGM throughout the existence of "The Shark" is that they've had essentially an AOR station programmed by a couple of CHR geniuses. You can't program Rock like you would Top 40 or Adult Contemporary.

And speaking of "The Shark" the name has to go. You've got heritage calls, use them.

May as well go the route WLS-FM in Chicago is, i.e. emphasis on the calls...

With that said, the WMGM calls - to me, at least - are more synonymous with the old Top 40 (read: "oldies") sound. I get the "shark" thing - the station's market is the Jersey shore...

The Shark + 90's = WZXL

The Shark needs to differentiate themselves from WZXL if they're going to win. Taking them on head-on is not going to succeed.

That's easy to do: personalities and a broader and deeper playlist.
