Auction 109 results for Arizona

Keep in mind that a huge amount of research has shown that over 95% of home and work listening occurs within the 65 dbu signal.<...>
So, did somebody *not* turn in their homework when considering building out a facility like this, or is it a 'hope and a dream' that it'll make enough money to work?

Estrella's Tusayan 92.3 Class A has filed for a license to cover. Originally this was a C1 but has been downgraded to just 100 watts on a low antenna as a Class A. Callsign is KXQX.

This could end up being a repeater for Estrella's proposed Flagstaff market station or something else is in the works perhaps? Estrella paid $17K in Auction 109 for this one.

It looks like the new set up is losing zero population, and about 5 miles of Highway 180 within the 60 dBu contour.

However, it's gaining about 2 miles of Highway 64, so it's really only losing about 3 highway miles.

Not sure that the original C1 allocation would justify the cost, as it would only gain mileage on US 180 and not many households (Valle, AZ, pop. 832).

The FCC has approved Estrella' proposal to upgrade KGXL from C3 to C1, thus making it a new entrant into the Flagstaff market. Let's see
how quickly KGXL makes it to air. I suspect winter snow conditions and supply chain issues will slow down things.

Quick sale turnaround. Estrella Broadcasting has submitted paperwork for the sale of the KGXL construction permit. Sale price is $430,000. (Wow! It's only 150,000 popcount in the 60dBu and about 100,000 in the 70 dBu - What gives? )

Buyer is ITM , the same folks behind two other Auction 109 acquisitions in Arizona: KVSU Desert Hills, KIDD Fort Mohave. ($456K was shelled out for both those CPs, now both on the air.)

That is a decent size small market, likely to have more locally owned businesses and fewer chain big box outlets. Owner-operators of a few of those in a close area can still make a nice income.

Flagstaff has transitioned to an over-radio'd market now with rimshotters , translators, and soon some additional OTA TV signals. Fortunately for the new owners, they can quickly launch content by just rebroadcasting one of their other stations located in Western Arizona. For example, already KIDD carries KPKR.

Estrella's $4300 bid on Salome looks to be a bargain. Today, they filed to re-locate KZXO to Bluewater (COL), near Parker. The frequency will shift from 106.5 to 93.9. The proposal calls for an upgrade to Class C3 at 7.5kw ERP.

Considering that ITM paid $265K for a Class A just up the Colorado River in Desert HIlls I would say Estrella did very well once more. Of course, Estrella recently an original $20,000 bid into a monster upgrade for the Flagstaff area.
