AUCTION IN RUTLAND?

Truthfuly, The Great Houdini does not want it on his #1 station. He believes it will hurt his programing. On the other hand you know what Mr. Marble's Motto is "where ever you go, there you are!" :-*

Who knows, maybe you'll be making up some lost revenue from callers from what one of your past spiritual gurus would say "The Puckerbush".. When it was on WSYB through the years, it worked fine, but you already know that. We thought Z 97 was your number one station ? Or Cat Country ? The demo is perfect for WJJR since it does mirror well with the WSYB demos in many ways.. I'll be there with my checkbook open, listening for bahhhgains..

WDEV in Waterbury does an auction once a year to benefit the VYO. They've been doing it for years. This isn't a new thing in radio, just something new to Rutland... Good Luck and hope the event is a success Mr. Marbles.. ;)

The Auction is not new to Rutland. "Big Mike's Auction Auction" has been a two to three times a year staple on WSYB since the spring of 1995. What is new is the way Pamal appears to be aping Big Mike's Action Auction concept, and attempting to do it themselves.. "Big Mike" is a real auctioneer who makes a living doing this with radio stations nationwide.

Big Deal!!! Mike....Shmike....as long as a radio station doesn't infringe on someone's copyright....they're fine. Broadcast media has been re-working ideas from others since Marconi. You people really need to get a life.....or at least get back to work!!

Just think of one side benefit of Pamal Rutland having an auction without a true licensed autioneer, if it is indeed illiegal to be doing something in that manner... Can you picture the extra possibilites of the benefit ?? A months worth of sound bites for WJJR's famous, "Name that Noise" promotion. Somebody should roll tape on this to hear. Here's a couple from my twisted mind that could be heard that day !
1) EEEEEOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW ! - That could be the case if a huge fine is levied...
2) DDDDDOOOOOOOOHHHHH !! - That could be the sound of the possible reading of the statute..
3) BLEEEEEEEP ! - Colorful metaphors that would make the HR staff blush..
4) CLICK CLICK - Book em Dano !
5)_______________________________ Dead air..
6) WWWAAAAAHHHOOOOO.... Kracko getting a wicked good deal on something..
7) TICK TOCK TICK TOCK TICK TOCK... Nuff said there.
OK, Back to work..

Maybe you should get back to your production...I hear you're buried in it...

Another Impossible Question for Houdini to answer...what happens if someone buys an item and you can't figure out what or where it went? Seems like a lot of potential cash for someone to "loose"...so easy to hide it in "trade"...

I hope the Professor and the Bear have an audit done afterwards...you think they will?

Whats that I hear...oh...must be the clock..tick tock..tick tock...

What made these auctions fly so well in years past on WSYB was the fact that any winning bidders had to arrive that day at the Dorr Drive mansion to pick up, pay up, and close out the sale.. With WJJR's 50,000 watts of POW- POW- POW - POWER.. Will someone from Newport NH who'se never been to Rutland before, cruise over to pay $3.00 for a $10.00 gift certificate to somewhere ? It's safe to say that Catamount Radio is not going to go into the delivery business. The entertainment value alone will be worth the tune-in.. Let the bahhhgains begin !

Kracko,
Catamount would have to begin to care about parts of the market outside of good ole Rut-Vegas. The folks stuck on that island think Rutland is the center of the universe.
I also seem to recall something they did down there called the "Save 30 Store" (they sold gift certs received in trade for 30% off the face value) any one else remember that? maybe i am confused, happens easily ???

I get what you are saying MoonB. Doing promotions, remotes, and a push to grow advertisers outside of the big city is not an easy thing to to considering how difficult it is to drive around the region. Usually it's becomes the newer people's task to develop the outlying areas. It's sometimes easier to go pick the ' low hanging fruit' closest to points around the city of license. I think the save 30 concept originated at WRNX in Northampton MA. That became a Pamal station, and was a big part of the trade with Clear Channel that sent Z 97 and WSYB out of Dorr Drive and into Merchant's Row.

Terry Jaye and Debbie Grumblebitch are the two biggest hacks in this business. Their promotional ideas are lame, they micro-manage EVERYTHING and oh yeah they are both overpaid yahoos who have got no clue what to do when it comes to radio. Save 30, how about this Pamal, make profit and learn how to run a promotion the right way.

The same WRNX that saw it's fearless leader book Pamaldom after only 1 year with the company to start WTYD in VA.

Lakemonster...play nice with the other children ;D

Ooooooh....LAKEMONSTER!!!! You soooo bad. PBT like! I want to hear more about this "auction". Sounds like fun! Can I buy things from up here? I will try to tune in! Who will be on the air? Houdini maybe? Ohhhhh can't wait! I remember Big ;D Mike from years ago and heard him last year on WWWT in Randolph. I missed my bid. I hope I can beat the auctioneer's hammer! I'll look at the website to se what me and my friends might like. I can get a case of soda! Yummy!

Maybe PrettyBoyToy can play auctioneer? Maybe one of the radio icons can teach me.
Ooohh! Can I hug the Bear too?

Well, now I feel better! I interviewed with those two a little while back and they were horrible. Like I said before it was a joke. The worst part, they never called me back. OK Moonb, maybe I was a little harsh. But from what I gathered from meeting them and what is written on this board, I don't think I was so far off?

I wonder if I should send the upper crust of Pamal a link to this post? Sounds like pertinent info that they ought to know about their employees to me.

It is so clear to me that these people responding with hostility toward the staions in Rutland have a problem... Have you worked for Debbie and maybe could not meet her expectations... She is a professional lady isn't she? Just not use to working for someone that knows what they are doing are you? Come on people, lets show some respect... Debbie is one of the most respected people in radio.. You are not going to hurt her.. Start using your time working at your new jobs before you are looking for something else again...

Sorry Richard...maybe you've been duped...you write here, telling those who are critical of Pamal use our "time" working in our new jobs...How much time has the proffesional spent looking at this board, concerned with what a bunch of "disgruntled" employees thinks? Maybe more time spent on making her stations better, selling more spots, running clean and profitable promotions...creating a LOYAL staff...maybe she should take a look at her style...maybe she is misunderstood, or maybe not...

Respect? From what I hear...it works both ways...oh by the way...my job??? SOLID...

Richard, while you ask some very good questions. We know you have a bias there since she is your friend, and you are noble to defend your friend. Dudeman seems to have a handle on things.
