Audacity?

I am new to this section of the radio-info boards, so I apologize if this falls under the beat this topic to death category. I was wondering what people's general feeling about Audacity? I am just a beginner, and will be learning how to use Adobe Audition this semester. The thing that makes my situation unique is, I'm visually-impaired. Does anyone know of any programs that are easy to work with using standard windows menus? I haven't been able to get too far in Audacity yet, but that's simply because I have not had a lot of time to work with it yet. Thanks.

okay, first, let me ask you this. how impaired are you? i work with a guy who has very little sight, but can see and he uses Cool Edit Pro with ease. the company got him a HUGE monitor and at the end of the day he does some of the best prod ive ever heard, using alot of keyboard shortcuts and such. he can see wave forms no problems but has a bit of trouble seeing where the mouse is and reasing menus. he has almost every type of effect and menu option as a shortcut. i would have to say with the shortcuts it makes it pretty easy to use.

as for audicy, i have never really used it so i cant really comment on it.

hope this helps.

As far as vision goes, I am like something out of a bad car accident. I'm totaled! But in all seriousness, I am totally blind, so I can't use the mouse at all. Thanks for the help!

Adobe Audition can be fully customized with keyboard shortcuts...Well, almost! You can also get a controller for Audition called the Red Rover. It can't do anything that you can't program the keyboard to do, but it could free up a few keys for other use. It's a USB interface with controls similar to a tape deck...Transport buttons, track volume, cue marker and a few other small things.

As far as Audacity, I think it's a fantastic program. I couldn't guess at how it would work for a visually impared user...But I think it's probably the best free editor available. No multitrack capabilities, however. You might also look into Goldwave and it's multitrack sister Multiquence. Not free, but cheap and good.

I use Mixcraft (Acoustica). I love it!

I tried Cool Edit Pro. I had a problem with it recording at the wrong speed. It sounded as though I was recording a vinyl record on the wrong speed, which I wasn't doing at all.

I contacted tech support who told me "No ones ever had that problem before, so we can't help you."

Needless to say I got rid of it posthaste.

Mixcraft is great for what I need.

Audacity has a multitrack feature on the MAC...

If anyone wants a Red Rover let me know I have an extra. We went to using the Mackie Universal Controller on Adobe Audition (Cool Edit Pro)it's a USB unit, and you can mix with it's faders in Audition as well as multiple shortcut assignments..Really really cool unit.
