Audacy Cuts ✂️

Im worried about the AMs in Vegas so does their sole Palm Springs station and the clusters in Memphis and Buffalo

iHM figured out a while ago that HD2/HD3-only stations are a waste of resources and money. It appears Audacy might be coming to the same realization.

The newly formed subsidiary has the hallmarks of a held-for-sale entity. Perhaps they are trying to make some sort of deal with their creditors.

Agreed. This is how it starts. Prior to the sale to Entercom, CBS was trying to sell Palm Springs, San Bernardino/Riverside, Phoenix, and a few others. If CBS wanted to sell them, there's probably a good reason. Miami might be on the block.

However, other than more cost cutting, I don't see any real changes coming to NY.

does this mean the end of Alt, Smooth Jazz, and NY's Country on HD-2? 😢
Hopefully, at least New York's Country 94.7 HD2 will continue. Unlike Alt on 92.3 HD2 and Smooth Jazz on 102.7 HD2, it has a steady sponsor, and also clears Audacy's national Country programming.
Though IHeart eliminated most of its music HD2's in New York, they have kept the Broadway channel on 106.7 HD2. It too has a consistent sponsor.

The penultimate paragraph of the article is likely referring to DFW, where Audacy’s KLUV might sell its “K-Love” branding to EMF, which would allow the national K-Love CCM network to launch in that market on another signal. I would be stunned if EMF was to buy one of Audacy’s DFW FMs.

Atlas can hold a double meaning. @Sammi Brie pointed out to me that it comes off as a codename for a “roadmap” to financial responsibility.

It ALSO signifies Atlas holding the weight of the world on his shoulders.

IHeart called its holding tank for stations it had been stuck with the Aloha Trust. Citadel's island of misfit toys was branded the Last Bastion Station Trust. What did those names mean, if anything?

A common misperception is that Aloha means both means “hello” and “goodbye” and that was likely Clear Channel’s interpretation. Last bastion… your guess is as good as mine. At least “last resort station trust” would be self-explanatory.

Didn’t Cumulus have a weird name for their post-chapter 11 holding trust?

I think it was Last Bastion Station Trust.

Citadel aka the former ABC Radio
Citadel and Audacy have something in common. They both bought a TV network’s radio division through a Reverse Morris Trust. Citadel ultimately failed as the combined company couldn’t handle the excessive debt load and had their stock delisted (which didn’t make Disney shareholders that had shares in Citadel happy by any means).

Audacy is trying to avoid delisting for the same exact reason.

Correct. Which makes me wonder if Paramount Global still retains shares in Audacy, and if they might be pulling some strings to stave off a similar fate. Shari Redstone was not in favor of the sale.

I don't believe they do. Would you expect them to absorb Audacy?
