Audio Processors/Chain for 6000 US

If you had 14k to burn I'd say the best option is the Omnia 6EX. I don't think there's anyone that can hold a candle to that box right now out there.

There is - Orban 8500. And we will put all the effort to make DSPXtreme a player in the same league and give a mentioned duo a run for their money.

Good luck with the DSPXtreme. I'm looking forward to hearing a demo. It must be difficult to implement new ideas when so many DSP schemes have patents.

I am an engineer first, and a dealer second. Also, I am very open about the fact that I am in the equipment business...it's right there in my signature along with all of my contact info.

Just had a look at the R.F. Specialties webpage. Their line card lists just about all of the known processors available. Your bias misrepresents R.F. Specialties, and that's bad business practice. Lurkers will now go to another dealer for their favorite processor, as you have compromised your employer.

Now, I really don't wanna get into a personal attack war here...I think this is getting a bit silly.

I am very enthusiastic about the Vorsis line...guess what...I'm also very enthusiastic about Orban, Omnia, Audemat, Inovonics, etc...I think they all make fine products. I suggested Voris at the beginning of this thread because it's a newer product that many people are excited about. I stuck up for their parent company Wheatstone when another poster attacked them saying they were in Financial Trouble...because I knew that was gossip. I have a great relationship with all of the above-mentioned companies and sell plenty of their products.

Let's end this non-productive banter and return this thread to audio processor discussion. Thanks.

I'll put it to you all this way, if I was in Market #1 and had to suggest a processor today for FM and HD, it would be the AP1000 first. End of story.

HA...It was kicked out of NYC. So much for that one.

YEP, if Vorsis had done the RIGHT THING,they might have had one in a TOP 5 market. They blew it.They need to get serious about marketing this product or they'll find a long shelf life history.Jeff might be an ok guy,but sales wise he cost them one.also i would use more aggresive pricing on the ap1000, not sure what the current best street price is,maybe Chris could share that with us.

I must of missed something, I dint see any bias in his reply. I buy stuff off them when they have the price. I'd expect him to make a recommend if I came to him with a price and a problem, seems like that's what he did. I suspect if he could supply a 6EXi or an 8500 for the requested 6 Large he would have. And he'd sell a hell of a lot of both of them at that price.

It isn't the silliest reply I ever saw - but it makes the top five.

BOYS,BOYS,BOYS.I think we lost Shay along time ago(he started the post, remember?)all we know is the format is dance music, nothing about market size, competition.Mentioned he had 6k budget.lots of boxes in that price range.demo all you can ,then decide, but i am thinking the Omnia One FM would suit his requirements and save him lots of green.

By who? Can you give more than just a generalized answer? Considering the fact that I attended the SBE Chapter 15 meeting in November 07 where the Vorsis processors were shown, and most of the major CE's in the market were there and had never really seen the box before, I find this hard to believe.

Like they're going to tell you. It's one of the stations in our company, and as stated before we keep our processing info private.

Oh OK. THAT company.... ;)

They are the be all end all.

Regarding patents, seeing what clever things Scott did to squeeze so much processing power into just four DSPs in DSPXmini, I suggested to him he should publish those techniques as a patent. There are some things in there that are simply ingenious. But he just waved his hand and said "no time for that..."

I also managed to hear one of these Vorsis boxes on the air. To make it short, I liked the sound. I sure didn't hear any distortion, and trust me, I can pick up on things like that reeaaally fast.

Now, the last time I checked, running a processor through an FM transmitter, and sitting out in a parking lot and hearing the results over a car radio (factory stock unit) AND a pocket FM transistor radio with stereo earphones qualifies as an "on air test".

Actually come to think of it, I did hear distortion in the Vorsis box. But then my friend who was there was still playing with the controls and tweaking everything just so. When he was done....the distortion was gone.

Once the box is set properly, it sounds GOOD. End of story. I figured you guys would know better than to just plug in one of these processors and go with a factory preset, without further tweaking.

And P.S.: If you're feeding grungy, dirty-sounding program material into the processor, of course the end result is gonna be even nastier.

Would ya listen for three or four days, and report back on it? Experience tells me women are going to be somewhat more aware of distortion and crud than men. Makes your opinion more valueable.
I wasn't impressed with the early model I played with, but haven't messed with one for a couple of years now. It sound as if they have sorted it out fairly well.

Absolutely! If Vorsis would loan me a sample unit to play with at home for a couple weeks, I'd be glad to do a writeup.

Thank you to everyone who replied. It was great to get such a comprehensive replies and on my first posting here, so thanks to everyone once again.

I found a lovely Optimod 8100 A with XT2 and it was serviced last year and sounds amazing. I found with the newer processors although they give more attention to detail there is sometimes almost too much detail going on. When I listened to the music it just felt right on the Optimod. The other night the current Number one station was doing their dance show and a few others and myself were at the ready to test our latest buy! As they were counting down the 10 ten Dance tracks, we also were ready. When number one came about we played the same track just a few seconds later. Although you heard a lot of detail in the background, we had the edge on the overall warmth and if felt as if our audio was playing it the way it was meant to be played and it did and more when what we hoped for! I felt with the 8100, I knew why people after nearly 30 year still hold that unit as the turning point in Audio History and Its nice to own a little bit of the history. I’m sure I could have spent the whole 6000 and gotten more audio but we are more than happy with our lot and it suits our music format down to the ground!

Thanks again for your views and expertise J

certainly not a bad choice and it is a piece of history. The XT2 chassis really helped the 8100a, i used the combo years ago and really liked it.Updated and ready to go.Mr.Orban would be proud of you.you might want to check out an Ariane pre-processor in place of the XT.It would make it SING even better.Rock Solid AGC..

Now, replace all the 1974 vintage (read: long time obsolete) TLO-72 opamps in it with some TLE-2072s or AD-712s and listen to it REALLY sing!

While you're at it, replace the unbiased tantalum caps in the bass channel on both card 3s with 10 uf nonpolars and put GOOD caps in cards 8 and 9 (where the two 100 ufs are in series to make a nonpolar). Finally, make sure that the unused half of IC-310 is turned off on cards 3 and 4.

Finally, drop another 6800 uf or so of filtering in each rail of the power supply, and put it RIGHT AT the power supply board itself (as opposed to a foot away in another area of the box). This takes some work, but it can be done. Make sure the 47 uf output caps in this supply are new (not purple ones). This mod is especially important if you're running an XT chassis, as it draws its (extra) power from this power supply.

NOW you'll have a processor that eats 'digitals' for lunch!
