I think Beasley will have to flip 97.5 soon. To what , who knows. It's clear they couldn't beat wip at their own game . WIP is too powerful .
But WPEN makes money and, just like WRFF to iHeart, plays a role in the cluster strategy. As always, never say never, because stranger things have happened, but WPEN probably isn't going anywhere.

They aren’t actually investing to beat WIP. They’d be foolish to take that route. They’re an alternative to WIP.
Mostly. Philadelphians are stubborn in their ways and don't like to change much. But Beasley DID launch 98.5 the Sports Hub in Boston and now regularly beat Audacy's WEEI, so it CAN be done. But it's pretty clear the Fanatic ain't going to do it too.

Remember, the situation in Boston was mandated by the FCC and FTC to avoid a "sports monopoly" and is not comparable to other markets where there are two or more sports formats.

This is also an overplayed cliche. There’s not some especially magical thing that happens when people enter the Philly market that makes them stubborn.

Some people the world over like the familiar, some like to keep trying the new, and some are somewhere in the middle.

Yeah, yeah…some people griped about the Action News theme change…three decades ago. That’s as overplayed as the snowballs at Santa thing. 😉

When are they going to put a once great flamethrower, a Philly tradition for decades out of its misery, McCauley, Niagara, Garland, Brown, Moran, Webber, Clayton, Dougherty and other greats must be turning in their graves. Most Blacks listen to WURD A/F for the real deal, from real people, not some watered down, safe outlet run by rich suits who have no idea whats going on in the Black community.

Okay, we are getting tired of this kind of vacuous remark about 1210 AM. The options for a major owner for an AM other than news, sports (moving fast to FM nationally) and talk are just about zero.

Keep in mind that in a multi-station cluster, sales are often if not "nearly always" cluster based and not station based. So even with the current ratings and format, WPHT apparently bills around $5 to $6 million... and that is among about the top 350 to 375 billing stations in the country (out of about 10,800 total commercial AM and FM stations not including translators).

I'm not sure, but I thought they were referring to 610 WTEL running iHeart's Black Information Network, and not WPHT.

Now I am confused. There are two AMs in the market that qualify as "flamethrowers" in the US: 1210 and 1060 as they are the only two with 50kw day and night.

As mentioned above, 610 is hardly a "flamethrower". It is 5kw day and night, which is, by world and US standards, a low power.

I also think the poster is referring to 61O AM as the names mentioned were all (I believe) on the air at 610 WIP-AM before it changed irs format to sports talk (and later moved to FM).

As for "flame throwing" that rivals a ZIPPO lighter.

You can technically throw a Zippo.

Based on the particular set of names in that rant, 610 would appear to be the topic. Of course, WIP is alive and well. They simply changed addresses so to speak. The old address may be in an undesirable, decrepit neighborhood, but this WIP is that WIP.

I have him blocked so I can't even see what he said; I can just see your responses. But can there really be any question that whatever the complaint was, it was about the station airing the Black Information Network. I mean...really, folks? Really?
