This ahead of the sale and expected format change on KOKE-FM: Hot 95.9 Gives Way To Austin’s Texas Country – RadioInsight
iHeart already has two Country stations in the market (Mainstream KASE and gold-based KVET), there is absolutely no reason for them to sign on a third.I'm a little surprised iHeart didn't jump on this and flip one of their underperforming translators to a country flank position to prevent anyone else from getting any ideas.
You’re never “going anywhere” until ownership decides differently, so I would take that with a Morton’s box full of salt. Norsan doesn’t do Country formats.Bob Cole said they are not going anywhere a while back I heard.
I'm not arguing with that take. KVET isn't totally gold-based though and there probably is a sliver of room for another country option in the market, which KOKE-FM currently has and which Audacy obviously thinks might be up for grabs soon.iHeart already has two Country stations in the market (Mainstream KASE and gold-based KVET), there is absolutely no reason for them to sign on a third.
Regardless, 95.9 isn't a very good signal and the areas it does cover well are not where classic Texas country will perform particularly well. It might jump at first, but I think in 6-12 months it will likely do worse than Hot was doing ratings wise.
From KOKE FM Facebook:
We are thrilled to announce a transformative evolution for KOKE-FM and The HORN. Starting June 1, 2024 we will transition from terrestrial over-the-air radio frequencies to an exclusive focus on our thriving digital streaming platforms.
Starting June 1 you can enjoy KOKE-FM and The HORN through kokefm.com, the KOKE app, hornfm.com, the HORN app and through your smart speaker.

You must have cut off the last part of that release, @jras20. It will be along the lines of within a calendar year (18 months if we're really and truly gluttons for punishment) we will quietly ride off into the sunset by shuttering the digital platform, once we realize that this idea is not sustainable, either, due to lack of financial support, steep decline in listenership, etc. etc. etc.Starting June 1, 2024 we will transition from terrestrial over-the-air radio frequencies to an exclusive focus on our thriving digital streaming platforms.

I'm afraid it's the death knell for Genuine Austin Radio.
Just heard a promo on 95.9 FM that Bob Cole and Eric Raines are now doing the morning show there.
