Mix 94.7's ratings is way below what I thought they would be.

I kind of expected "The Horn" to beat "The Zone," FM definitely trumps AM, even though I think The Zone's hosts are slightly better. If you are The Zone, you have to get on FM if you wanna keep up.

101X came in with a strong 3.9, hopefully their numbers continue to rise. I wonder how much their recent success has to do with Loveline?

I expected to see Oldies 92.5 perform poorly, this is the wrong city for that format. Hopefully BMP will bring back Digital.
 
What's even more amazing about the Horn's success is that they're fighting with both hands behind their back, given the poor quality of their signal. But then, they're going up against KVET, which can't be heard after sunset more than 50 feet from their sticks...and isn't a lot better during daytime.
 
what i like to see, is a good classic rock and some oldies mix on a austin station. like the hawk was in the 90's.
 
I can tell you why Mix 94.7 is doing so bad. They have good music, but no real personalities winning them over.

JB and Sandy are boring! There not really exciting and fun like Jason and Deb from 101x are. Heather and Nikki Nite are boring, and don't win me over when they are talking about whatever. I used to like Bridget and Carey in the afternoons, but now that there gone, the afternoons are dull and boring. Kim Iverson is ok, but dosen't sit well with male listeners.

And the new voiceover that they have ... you know, the guy who says stuff like "Mix 94.7 would like to thank our listeners in __city name___, you've always been our favorites." ... he is sooooo dull and his voice sounds so monotone, and sleepy.

Now if they had a voice that woke you up and is in your face, like the voiceover for Movin' 99.7 in San Francisco, then the station would have the in-your-face kind of attitude to win ratings.
 
Glad to see someone else mention the imaging on Mix. It's beyond hideous. Some of the worst I've ever heard.
 
There isn't much conflict on the JB & Sandy show anymore. By that I mean they're both living similar lives with marriage and kids. They were a whole lot more interesting when JB was the good husband and Sandy was the party hound. And while Bridget's personal life is a train wreck, she's a strong and compelling talent with a solid following. She should be back with the morning show which has pretty much relegated its female players to tertiary roles. There's not much chemistry there anymore and JB's ego probably won't let him make the changes necessary to get the show on track. I listened to Heather's show one day last week and after 22 minutes, she hadn't even cracked the mic...so I bailed. Haven't bothered to check out Nikki. Kim doesn't get a lot of direction, but she's a natural talent who does pretty well on her own instincts. Her syndication project is a noble experiment (not really designed to appeal to males) that could use a little more attention from corporate. As for the music, Mix was at it's best when it was a true Modern AC. Now it's just unfocused and unhip. And what's with the lame jingles? Does anyone really think they add to the listening experience or stationality? What the station needs is a PD with a local vision and a sense of Austin radio heritage that are wholly missing. Look at their website...Mix could just as easily be in Fresno or Peoria. 1.7...what a shame!

I agree. What a shame, and the ratings show it!

A true Hot/Modern AC station I love listening to is KBIG-FM 104.3 My FM out of Los Angeles. I listen to it from my Blackberry and plug it into the AUX jack on my car stereo, and when i hear it out of my speakers, I sometimes I feel like I'm in LA. I know it sounds weird but its true.
 
Keep in mind that KGSR also shifted its music presentation to include a lot more modern AC cuts. While I'm sure the blandness of Mix 94.7 hasn't been helping the ratings, when you look at where KAMX was in the Summer '09 book and where it is now, it seems feasible that their could be some correlation between KGSR's rise and Mix's decline.
 
I second the announcer comments on here about Mix. The morning show is a huge mistake weighing in at way over $500k salary. The Bridget & Carey Show were really the only solid show on that station. Of course at the time Bridget & Carey was let go last summer, entercom stock was hovering below $2. Now their stock is trading at about $13.50 a share. BIG difference as Entercom began unloading operating capital at it's stations through the Fall of 08' through the Summer of 09'. Bridget & Carey were getting paid a fraction of JB & Sandy's exorbitant crack-induced contract re-sign. B&C got screwed!
Now Mix has got a 1.7...worst ratings ever. Not saying dumping the afternoon show killed that station, but, c'mon. Hot AC's biggest cume comes in the Afternoon, not the morning...so keeping that show couldn't have hurt either.

As far as the music. MIX gave away their "variety" identity to BOB years ago. They'll never recover.

102.3 The River is also working more Hot AC tracks into their rotation (Daughtry, Train, etc.). Perhaps they are taking a small bite into Mix's ratings.
 
I don't really see the point in Mix 94.7, they should change the format to something else.
 
KAMZ used to be top 40 KPTY Party 94.7 back in 1994. It didn't do too well so they flipped it to KAMZ Mix 94.7 before that they were KFGI Froggy 94.7 . If they brought Froggy back They would have better ratings then 1.7. The reason the True Oldies station is doing so bad is signal. Digital had a stronger signal esp. in South Austin. Whenever a station transforms from Spanish to English the signal is always weaker it seems. Examples 104.9 Digital to 104.9 the Horn, In San Antonio Star 93 had a slightly weaker signal then the La Romantica 93 and the current Estereo Latino.

BMP should sell 92.5 to Univision. Entercom should flip KAMX back to Froggy or put the True Oldies channel on 94.7, and 92.5 should flip to Estereo Latino as Regional Mexican. KFMK numbers are looking good because they are investing in it unlike their previous format. KPEZ should go Dance (like Mega) on 93.3

Well...that and the fact that it has no personality whatsoever. If I want to listen to an iPod, I'll get one without commercials. But you are right about the signal. The only one worse is that abomination of RF on 104.9. Those guys slaving away over there are getting their numbers despite what their management has given them to work with...and should be congratulated.
