I'm just glad that the style of radio I appreciate is still practiced....somewhere! ;D

Univision Radio's biggest threat in the U.S. may be tech-savvy young Hispanics listening to great radio from Mexico on their smart phones. In Mexico, they still have great live personalities around the clock incorporating interaction with their listeners into their programs. One of the most clever shows I ever heard was an all-night Mexican trucker's show. It was really well produced with celebrity guests and even live remotes in the middle of the night. Loved it!

"Misterradio's" quote: " I want news or sports scores or humor or talk about politics or occasionally music that is new and different or unique. That is the old KVET."

A station that had a little news... a little sports... a little humor... a little political talk..with a LITTLE music (that was NEW, DIFFERENT or UNIQUE) - would be lucky to get a 1.0 share. And that would probably be people landing on it by accident.
Actually what I was describing was KVET during the 80's and 90's into the 2000's. I think it did pretty well. However, my point was that with all the new forms of media out there being able to deliver a more narrow form of individualized content (itunes, Pandora, etc.) the only way for radio to survive is to go where those medium can't. Live and local. Radio was so big as the place where people found out about music (where did you hear the new song by Bruce Springsteen or the latest from the Bee Gees?) that it became thought of as music medium. The surge of conservative talk programming and to a lesser extent sportstalk on AM and sometimes FM showed that it doesn't have to be only that. Maybe I am wrong and all people want is another juke box on the radio. Only time will tell....
