austin unfilled formats

I would love for Austin to once again have a rythmic Dance format. Dance is way under rated on Austin radio and the only real dance you can here is on Hypersonic Radio with Jason Jenkins on 101x on Saturday nights. Jammin 105.9 should go more toward dance IMO.

I wouldn't count on 105.9 for anything other than Spanish programming. As soon as the sale from Clear Channel goes through, I predict a quick change to a Spanish format of some kind.

Univision should pick up KFMK and either sell KLQB or change it to English-language so Taylor can have at least one station in English instead of both Taylor-licensed stations in Spanish.

I don't think that Univision would get back the $20 million that it paid for KLQB. It had a 6 share in January and a 2.8 share in June. It's tied with KINV that was bought for $17 million. On the other hand, KFMK has a fairly good signal, and would go for less than $25 million. Is Austin worth $62 million to Univision and $65 million to BMP?

Probably not. I figured KFMK would be better for them with the better Austin signal. KFMK covers more of the immediate Austin area better than KLQB, especially downtown and on the west side.

With radio listeners declining, it probably doesn't make much sense to buy another station if others don't perform well. Although I would like to see how well it performs in it's demo

I know its probably anachronistic but has anyone considered using KFMK as a Round Rock-centric local station since it is Round Rock's only commercial radio station. You remember, Round Rock news and weather, Round Rock events, maybe even Round Rock high school football rotating the local schools. Just a thought.

I totally agree, even thought the KFMK tower site is at the tower farm off 360. KFMK needs to be something-centric. Round Rock is one of the fastest growing communities in the country. If you throw in the Round Rock ISD sports you've got the kids as well as a huge portion of North Austin. Sports then adds Pflugerville, Leander and Georgetown to the mix.

Radio is local, when the biggest station in the Austin market has a 6.1 share, it means that 93.9% of all the people in town who are at least 12 years old don't listen to your station. I think that being a bigger fish in a smaller pond is a good idea.
