Ave Maria Radio and EWTN radio

WCCR, AM1260 is “Cleveland Catholic Radio”. I notice that their top of the hour newscasts are announced as “Ave Maria Radio News”. The main programs seem to usually come from the EWTN radio network. I went to both websites and noticed that they both had some of the same programs listed, such as “Kresta In The Afternoon”, the talk show hosted by Al Kresta, Monday-Friday from 4pm- 6pm. Around the top of the hour, Al will mention what he’s going to talk about next, and then say, “but first here’s the news”.

Why isn’t it just EWTN radio news? I first thought that “Ave Maria” and “EWTN radio” networks might be independent with WCCR taking programming from each. However, the switch from one to the other is very smooth indicating a common source.

There is a Radio Maria, I'm not aware of an Ave Maria News or network.

It seems from what I can gather looking at Ave Maria Radio's website and ETWN that they have very close ties (Ave Maria Radio is a group of a few AM stations in Michigan that relies heavily on ETWN Programming) - btw it's very possible to have a smooth transition from one network to another it's all a matter of the automation system your using and how you program things!

All the Catholic networks are lay groups, not part of a diocese or an official Catholic church project. Some from what I understand are doctrinally at odds with Rome at times

There was a station near me that was owned by Immaculate Heart Radio / Relevant Radio for a time as they bought more than a dozen AM stations and a handful of translators from Salem Media a few years back. I stopped and listened a few times when scanning the dial. I thought "Thou Shalt Not Lie" was a commandment and breaking that was a sin, so I was surprised to hear those hosting shows on a Catholic network do so, but to say they were spouting off in inaccuracies and that their political stance was far right and ultra conservative, at least the times I caught their programming, would be an understatement.

I heard oned of those Catholic networks declaring that Trump was the most pro-life President ever. Did they know how many people the Trump administration executed in its last months? I could have sworn anti-death penalty was part of Catholic doctrine.

Touting the death penalty was the least of Trump's rhetoric that would be considered anything but "pro-life". I don't believe he was even that staunchly against abortion which is far more near and dear to conservative Christians' hearts than most anything that would truly be considered "pro-life".

Plus the fact that one of Cheeto's mistresses said he paid her $10,000 to get an abortion, which a taped phone conversation to back it up

President Trump did very well on the Pro-Life issue regarding abortion. Catholic radio hosts I've heard respect him for the good work he did.

Other than nominating theocrats as justices, I can't imagine what. And again, I could have sworn Catholic theology also dealt with the death penalty, even if lay Catholics are all "fry 'em".

I don't believe they are theocrats. They are Conservative.
The folks I heard on Immaculate Heart were more than conservative; the ones I happened to hear one particular evening were going to extremes, and saying stuff that might cause people to hate, turn their backs on, or mentally damage their own kids or family members. In one instance they read a question from a listener, then went on to answer them and told them LGBT+ people are deeply flawed and why they supposedly don't fit into God's plan. If your family member is gay, there's something inherently wrong with them, get them to conversion therapy, have them talk to a priest. etc. In reality, medical science tells us that a certain percentage of people are simply born that way, and conversion therapy has been debunked and even declared detrimental by so many mental health and medical professionals that it's been outlawed in 20 states and more than 100 cities.

Talk show host Bill O'Reilly once said, "The Bible is pretty hard on gays". The Bible is, likely, Immaculate Heart's reference point.
You’ve got a lot of folks who consider homosexuality the number one sin.
I find that many who fit into those camps usually 1) Have a very subjective interpretation of certain parts of the Bible, to try and make it reinforce their own viewpoints and prejudices, and/or 2) They're very much the types who pick and choose which parts of God's message or Church teaching they'll (sometimes inaccurately) quote to try and reinforce points or arguments that are near and dear to their hearts, while at the same time they'll completely ignore or disregard many other teachings and dogma that may not be so convenient for them.

On the 10/19/2021 edition of "Kresta In The Afternoon" (4pm-6pm Monday-Friday), it became clear that Al Kresta's show is a product of Ave Maria Radio. A lady was being interviewed and one of the things she talked about was how thankful she is that, years ago, someone turned her on to Ave Maria Radio. It, profoundly, enhanced her life. She talked, at length, about Ave Maria Radio.

GOT FURTHER SPECIFIC INFORMATION about Al Kresta's show.
I heard this: "Kresta In The Afternoon" is a co-production of Ave Maria radio and the EWTN radio network carried over the EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network".
